The popular interpretation of Santa's reindeer arrived two years later in 1823, in Clement C. Moore's poem 'A Visit from St. Nicholas' (which is more popularly known by its first line: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas…). Here, the names of the main eight reindeer were defined as Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, and two other reindeer who were originally referred to as Dunder and Blixem. These are Dutch words meaning 'Thunder' and 'Lightning', and were subsequently tweaked to Donner and Blixen when the poem was reprinted in 1844 as a new version by Moore. (America featured many Dutch settlers at the time, with New York's original name being New Amsterdam.) In the TV film Once Upon a Christmas (2000), Rudolph makes an appearance when Kathy Ireland's character, Kristin, goes on a sleigh ride with Rudolph leading it. May's alma mater), published a scholarly paper on Rudolph's red nose in the open access online journal Frontiers for Young Minds in 2015. In the paper, Dominy noted that reindeer eyes can perceive shorter wavelengths of light than humans, allowing them to see ultraviolet light; ultraviolet light, however, is much more easily scattered in fog, which would blind reindeer. In Ray Stevens' novelty song "Santa Claus Is Watching You" (1962), Rudolph is replaced on Santa's team by "Clyde the Camel", a character from Stevens' earlier hit, " Ahab the Arab".
