kettle DEAL OF THE DAY: Cut down on bills with energy-efficient kettle
If you’re in the market for a new kettle, or will be in the near future, I’d highly recommend getting an eco friendly energy efficient model. We found that this kettle has most, if not all Eco features. From a rapid boil function to a keep warm feature, notification beep, and removable filter spout, to a temperature control panel, and boil-dry protection feature. Cleaning an electric kettle is not as easy compared to traditional kettles. The modern and cordless kettles, however, make it easier for you to clean your kettle courtesy of their hidden heating element feature.Another great function of this Duronic water boiler is that after heating your water you can press the Keep Warm button to keep the water in the kettle at the same hot temperature for up to 30 minutes. This is perfect if you usually like to go for second drink after your first one, of if you know someone else will want a hot drink shortly after you. There are fancy safety functions on this kettle. For example, there are 3 ways to shut it off- by lifting the kettle, the boil-dry protection, or when the water reaches its boiling point. The concealed element features make it easy to clean the kettle. We do have a couple of gripes about this variable-temperature kettle. The first is that there’s no temperature pre-sets, but at current time, that’s par for the course with kettles with temperature controls on the handle. The second is that it can be quite hard to see the minimum- and maximum-fill levels as you’re filling the kettle, but you can get around this by marking them on the outside in some way.

We have to be honest and say that the Doctor Hetzner variable-temperature kettle isn’t exactly the most attractive temperature-control kettle we’ve ever seen, but it isn’t exactly ugly either and it certainly has plenty to offer in terms of usability. This energy efficiency kettle has a large capacity (1.7 litres) and a rapid boil system. With this, you can boil 1 cup in just 45 seconds, thus saving up to 66% energy. It is also easy to make one cup by using the water level gauge. Its perfect pour spout ensures there are no water wastage dues to splashes. For easy cleaning, it has a hidden element and shuts off after boiling. Store excess boiled water in an insulated flask or bottle – I’ve started to do this when I work from home. Any over-boiled water goes into a thermos flask or my insulated Chilly bottle to be used later on. It works perfectly.

When it comes to the best energy-efficient kettles, this Bosch model comes highly recommended. We were sceptical at first, but after testing it first-hand, we can agree that it’s epic! This is thanks to the temperature control feature at the base of the kettle that lets you choose from 70 – 100°C, so that you can reach the exact temperature you need. Oh, and the keep warm function that retains water temperature for up to 30 minutes. Let’s not forget the large capacity of 1.5 litres. For us, it is these features and many more. It’s thought that a good eco kettle will be 80-85% energy efficient – this is a measure of how much of the energy is going into boiling the water. Other kitchen appliances, such as stoves and ovens are not as energy efficient as this.
