With all of the different ways you can configure the 3189 (tablet, tent, flat and normal laptop modes), the viewing angles are very important, and the 3189 delivers. The screen has wide viewing angles from the sides, top and bottom - great for having a bunch of students gathered around one computer for collaboration. The Chromebook 3180 has 11.6-inch and 1366 x 768 Display. With 72.8 per cent of the sRGB colour gamut, the detailing and texture of the display are very clear. Battery Life: Wireless connections are critically important to a Chromebook, since Chrome OS is designed to work with always-on internet connectivity. Unfortunately, this is one area where the Chromebook 3100 suffers a bit. Its dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi failed to reliably connect to the internet in my testing at home unless it was in the same room as the router, while my other devices saw a strong connection a few rooms further away. Substandard Wi-Fi components are a hazard of any cheap laptop, but they're especially worrisome on a Chromebook whose raison d'être is constant web connectivity.

Google is planning to add support for Android apps to future versions of Chrome OS and some Chromebooks -- but not the 3189 -- can already do it, if users install a beta version of the operating system. However, with its touch screen and convertible form factor, Dell's laptop should do a great job running Android software when the time comes. Schools and parents who are looking for a durable Chromebook with solid performance, strong battery life and a comfortable keyboard will find a lot to like in the Dell Chromebook 3180. The screen brightness was fine for indoor use, measuring 223 nits, compared with 291.8 nits for the Chromebook Flip C302CA and 210 nits for the Chromebook 3180. But it was well below the category average of 301.8, so you wouldn't want to use it near a sunny window. However, if you want a rugged Chromebook that can last through a full school day, the Dell Chromebook 3180 is a strong choice.

on Dell internal analysis using publicly available specs in August 2023 comparing maximum effective capacity for PowerStore 1200 and FlashArray //X20. Assumes average 4:1 data reduction for PowerStore, 5:1 for Pure Storage. Actual results vary. The Chromebook 3189 was able to reproduce 81.2 percent of the sRBG color gamut, which was higher than the Chromebook R 13 (63.7 percent), the Chromebook Flip C302CA (76 percent) and the Chromebook 3180 (72.8 percent). But is was still well below the category average of 96 percent. The Chromebook 3180 reproduced a modest 72.8 percent of the sRGB color gamut, which is far below the ultraportable-laptop category average of 99.4 percent, but similar to the scores from the Chromebook N7 (72 percent) and the N22 Touch Chromebook (71 percent). The Asus Chromebook C202 was significantly less vibrant. Above the screen is a front-facing webcam that shoots video at 720p resolution. It's a bog-standard laptop camera, and while its quality isn't amazing (video is noisy at times, even in good light), it isn't any worse than similar cameras on Windows laptops that cost three times as much. How does this adequate performance translate to benchmark results? Compared to competitors, the Chromebook 11 offers middling performance on tests like WebXPRT 3, CrXPRT, JetStream 2, and PCMark for Android. We recommend creating the recovery media with the latest version of Chrome OS. Avoid using recovery media that may contain an older version of the operating system. It helps to ensure that you are running the latest version of Chrome OS once you recover your Chrome computer. Google doesn’t say when these pre-2019 Chromebooks will get Android apps, only that support is “planned” for some time in the future. Don’t stake your life on it, in other words.

My selfie was very grainy and dark, even though I was in a bright room. Colors were accurate, but detail was not there. However, students might enjoy the different built-in filters. For example, there are filters involving color, such as sepia and grayscale; filters that make different parts of your face bulge; and one that leaves image trails when you move, for a ghostly effect.
