About this deal

Ukraine has faced several seismic events in its democratic self-government, including the Orange Revolution in 2004 and the Euromaidan Revolution in 2014 . March 2014 also brought the Russian invasion of Crimea . In response to the Russian occupation, tens of thousands of Tatars fled the Crimean peninsula. Cultural facts Ukrainian is much more phonetic than Russian. In Russian, the о (as in молоко , “milk”) is sometimes pronounced more like an “a,” depending on its position in the word. This is called “vowel reduction.” In Ukrainian, the position of a letter in a word doesn’t change its pronunciation. Grammar The book has a beautiful preface by Arkady Ostrovsky, in which he talks about the 'We're here' speech, about his experience while meeting Zelensky, and offers his thoughts on the war and the current situation. And needless to say, it is longer than any Zelensky speech in the book 😊 But it is a beautiful, insightful preface. The book also has a beautiful introduction by the man himself, President Zelensky.

We were, we are and we will be; we have existed, we exist, and will continue to exist. And so, while we appreciate the help, support, and and attention the world has given us, the bravery of our people must not start being taken for granted. War must not become routine. Despite a misconception that Ukrainian is simply a dialect of Russian, Ukrainian and Russian are about as different as French and Spanish. The Ukrainian and Russian languages both grew from Old East Slavic, but started diverging over six hundred years ago. The unique history of each language has resulted in several key differences in writing, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Alphabet and pronunciationThe noted conservative economist delivers arguments both fiscal and political against social justice initiatives such as welfare and a federal minimum wage. These are the quotable soundbites, of course, from speeches intended to be heard in their entirety. How many end up being truly memorable, only history will decide. The book, which republishes 16 of Zelensky's key speeches, does not elaborate on how they are written. They are understood, though, to be crafted partly by Dmytro Lytvyn, a 30-something magazine columnist who works for the presidential office. While the precise words are apparently Lytvyn's, they are inspired by Zelensky's ideas and emotions. President Volodymyr Zelensky's message to the world - a rallying cry for us all to stand up, support Ukraine and fight for democracy

Demoralised Russian soldiers tell of anger at being ‘duped

Ukrainian and Russian use two different alphabets, both based on Cyrillic writing systems. Ukrainian has some letters, like ґ , і , and ї , that Russian doesn’t have — and vice versa. Some shared letters — like г , щ , and е — are pronounced differently in one language versus the other. Since Russia's invasion in February, his speeches have proved that when it comes to facing down Vladimir Putin's wrath, no-one copes with stage fright like a former stand-up. The three-minute video was filmed under conditions of duress. The soldiers are evidently scared. And yet there are numerous similar interviews with Russian captives which have been circulating on Ukrainian social media channels, expressing similar sentiments.

On special occasions, Ukrainians enjoy feasts of traditional foods such as борщ (borshch , beet soup) and го́лубці ( hólubci , stuffed cabbage rolls) . Singing and music are an integral part of Ukrainian cultural expression, with traditional instruments , stylings, and vocal techniques sometimes finding their way into contemporary artists’ work. The country’s strong folk music culture is still vibrant. It plays side-by-side on the airwaves with heavy metal, jazz, reggae, and punk, all featuring lyrics in Ukrainian. Modern Ukrainian literature and Ukrainian cinema depict life in different eras and regions of the country. Spoken by 45 million people worldwide, Ukrainian is a melodic language. It’s full of subtle shades of meaning, lending itself well to poetry and prose. Some of them thought they were on military exercises. They didn’t anticipate resistance,” Artem Mazhulin, a 31-year-old English teacher from Kharkiv said. “A lot are conscripts born in 2002 or 2003. We are talking about 19-year-old and 20-year-old boys.” To me, this is the absolute bare minimum I can stomach. To me, “we” should include the entire world. Though, I do understand that sound somewhat naive, I do understand why that would become logistically near impossible… at this time.
