About this deal

The sound quality is really its biggest weakness – you can certainly hear what's happening, but it's not rich or deep. A cheap soundbar would go a long way when paired with it, but that's true of all cheap TVs. This is part of Philips’ OLED+ range, which means it has a speaker enclosure made by legendary British hi-fi firm Bowers & Wilkins—and it’s been redesigned for even better audio performance. The seemingly effortless way that the A80L combines the spectacular with the subtle is quite extraordinary. The neon lights and holographic billboards of Blade Runner 2049’s downtown LA pop from the overall gloom of the city in brilliant fashion, but skin tones are handled with realism-boosting nuance and the seemingly hundreds of slightly different shades of grey that make up the bark of the tree at Sapper Morton’s farm are made clear to see. The C845K delivers outstanding sharpness and clarity with native 4K sources, and while its motion handling with 24p sources isn’t quite as refined and natural with or without processing active as the best rivals, it is fairly free from unwanted side effects and still looks natural enough to leave you immersed in what you are watching.

In our review we wrote: "Samsung's top-of-the-line Neo QLED 8K TV offered far better audio performance than we were expecting, with dialogue coming through in a particularly clear and prominent fashion." Of course, if you want the most immersive, cinematic experience then you'll need a soundbar. But if you're looking for an all-in-one solution with fantastic 8K picture, this is the best choice for you. You can select different audio modes depending on how you place the TV, too. So whether it’s sitting on a TV cabinet, or wall-mounted, you can rest assured you’ll get the best possible sound quality. If you're buying a TV below 32 inches and can save a lot of money on a Full HD model, by all means go for it (4K won't be a huge benefit at that sort of size anyway), but otherwise 4K is both worthwhile and, in all likelihood, your only option. Should you buy an 8K TV? Once again, Samsung's QN900B Neo QLED 8K TV has set the benchmark for Mini LED television technology, improving on its predecessor in a number of important ways, such as a noticeable reduction in light blooming, along with better image processing, brightness, and even design. While we have some reservations about Samsung's new (but not necessarily improved) user interface, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better LCD television this year. You'll watch in bright rooms: The middling brightness means it can struggle with sunlight or reflections – the Samsung S90C at #1 in this guide is brighter at the same price, or the Samsung S95C ( #4 in the guide) is nearly twice as bright.

Used to ensure user session remains with the same AWS instance to improve performance and stability. You'll watch in a bright room often: This is the least bright OLED in this list, which means it's susceptible to reflections when watching during the day, or with bright lights on. A mini-LED TV for the same price would be better for daytime viewing. The OLED42C3 features the same panel as other 42-inch OLED TVs such as the Sony XR-42A90K. This panel is less bright than the one used for the best and brightest larger OLED TVs, and that's before you even consider the new MLA and QD-OLED technologies. Web Widget offers pre-built API functionality for cookie consent; see here: Web Widget Cookie Permission in Developer Center It goes really loud, too, and there’s a very satisfying overall tonal balance. The Panasonic’s woofers can be provoked into some slight but distracting distortion by exceptionally deep bass, but those moments are rare, and the LZ2000 remains a TV of unusual sonic talent. The Sony A95K sounds more direct and clear than the LZ2000, and the Philips OLED937 offers even better clarity, detail and dynamics, but neither one of those rivals is as open and atmospheric as this Panasonic. While it might be tempting to think that bigger is better, the size of set that’s right for you is closely dependent on how close to the screen you’ll be sitting, and the resolution of the source material you’re watching. For a mid-range TV without any attached soundbar, the Sony X90J is surprisingly powerful in the sound category. Using only two 10W full range drivers and two side tweeters, the X90J delivers convincing and clear audio that, largely, sounds very good. It’s one of the more powerful TV speaker systems we’ve heard on a mid-range 4K TV.

You want the brightest OLED available: Both the Samsung S95C and the LG G3 offer higher brightness levels than the S90C. You need the best built-in sound: While its respectable, the B3's sound system is definitely not as punchy as other TVs available, like the Samsung S90C Its pictures really do jump off the screen with an intensity far beyond anything else we have seen at anything like the same price. In fact, they leave the vast majority of much more expensive mid-range and even a few really premium TVs looking dull by comparison. Including, as TCL would want it to, OLED models, with even the latestMLAandQD-OLEDsets falling some way short of the sort of brightness the C845K can achieve. Value for money is another key consideration. Sure many of the TVs in this list are pricey, but there's a difference between an expensive TV and one that really lives up to that price. Several of the TVs above might be eye-wateringly expensive, but if you have the money to spend, we promise they're worth it.

What size TV should I get?

So which is better? Opinion is divided. DTS:X is encoded in a higher bitrate so should technically be better quality audio. But Atmos claims to be more advanced, and capable of producing a higher quality sound at a lower bitrate. As is often the case, it comes down to personal taste.

The image quality is just as mind-blowing, with tuning by Hollywood specialists helping to make things as accurate and cinematic as you'll see in any TV. A brighter-than-average OLED panel with complete HDR support (both Dolby Vision and HDR10+) only helps with that. Outside of that, it retains the same core features we love about the C3 range as a whole. Specifically, it features the same Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor as every other C3 (and G3) and identical connectivity, with it sporting four PS5 and Xbox Series X/S-ready HDMI 2.1 ports that support 4K/120Hz, VRR and ALLM. It can also handle Dolby Vision gaming (right up to 120Hz, in fact) and an HGiG mode for more accurate HDR gaming. Currently, three HDMI connections is standard on budget and mid-range TVs, while four is the norm for premium models. You want a full board of 4K 120Hz capable HDMI inputs: Avid gamers might want to look elsewhere for 4K 120Hz inputs on every port.Indeed, in our five-star review, we said “The JZ2000’s speakers are truly incredible for built-in audio, being capable of recreating both the delicate footstep on a stairway and roaring explosion of a car crash in equal measure. You’re getting precise audio detail as well as a strong bass response.” Like other Sony TVs, the X90J uses Sony’s new X-Balanced Speaker to deliver clearer sound with less distortion at high volumes and the tweeters help broaden the soundstage of the TV—although it does make some compromises on the bass response. A unique feature of the LZ2000 is that it has beam-steering technology, which means that you can choose which direction sound is emitted from the front sound system. By using an onscreen graphic, you can steer the noise output to your preferred direction, allowing for a tailored listening experience – some people can hear things louder than others, for example. We gave its audio performance five out of five. While flagship sets with discrete speaker systems will sound even better, for a step-down model the A80L sounds very impressive. This should be a strong consideration for anyone with this sort of budget who is determined not to combine their new TV with a dedicated sound system.
