This is a rebranded ZTE MU5001, and it has some impressive specs, including the ability to get up to 32 devices connected to 5G (or 4G) all at the same time, and a battery life of up to 8.5 hours. I'm using it with a Taoglas wideband omni (700-6000MHz) and it certainly improves the signal / speed a lot. With high speeds, good battery life and plenty of simultaneous connections, this has all that most users should need, while the touchscreen is just the icing on the cake.

Why should you have to go without your 5G network when travelling? With the ZTE MU5001, you always have the latest mobile communications standard with you and can surf your own WLAN network at up to 1800 Mbit. End devices such as notebooks can be connected to the ZTE MU5001 via the RJ-45 network connection using a LAN cable. The router also offers a USB-C connection for connecting additional devices. If you want to increase the reception even further, the ZTE MU5001 offers the option of connecting an external 5G or LTE antenna to the two TS-9 interfaces. That’s a lot slower than 3.8Gbps then, but it’s in line with what you’ll find on some of the UK’s other5G networks, and peak speeds will be a lot higher. Average speeds may well increase over time too, as the network infrastructure improves. Other specs include support for Wi-Fi 6, plus two ports that you can optionally attach external antennas to (if you want to improve the signal), and one Ethernet port, for if you want to use a wired connection to one of your gadgets. With the ZTE MU5001, up to 30 devices can be supplied with Internet. The modem function can also be used via the USB-C port, but the special feature is the integrated RJ-45 connection. This is a major advantage of the ZTE MU5001 over other mobile routers.

With the device powered up, setting it up is reasonably simple using the touch screen. The hotspot automatically recognises the SIM, and there were no APN settings to input. The Vodafone 5G Mobile Hotspot also has an Ethernet port, so you can plug a device into it for a more stable wired connection, and there are two ports for attaching external antennas, to improve its performance – which could be particularly useful if the signal is weak somewhere. Alternatives All in all, while the Vodafone 5G Mobile Hotspot doesn’t have the most exciting of designs, it looks fairly good, and importantly it’s small enough not to be too inconvenient to take out with you. There are only two external antenna ports so these will increase the signal but only for 2x2 MIMO. The other MIMO antennas don't have external connectors.
