About this deal

I had high expectations for this sequel, given how much I loved These Hollow Vows last year (was in my top 5 reads). I wanted it to blow me away, but I wasn't quite prepared for just how much it would exceed all that I hoped for. This is a fantastic read, and I don't think I'm going to be able to come down from the high it's left me on for some time. Nishiuchi, T., Aibara, S., Sato, H. & Kubo, T. I’m not going to say much because this comes out next week, but this was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it did not disappoint.

Twisted Bonds by Lexi Ryan — Bookish Wayfarer Review: These Twisted Bonds by Lexi Ryan — Bookish Wayfarer

Finn, you were raised to lead your kingdom. You’ve spent your whole life preparing to take the throne, and suddenly you’re told I’m supposed to take it instead. How are you so accepting of this?” Another noteworthy aspect of this book is its world expansion. It builds upon the world introduced in These Hollow Vows, traveling beyond the bounds of the Seelie Court and Unseelie palace. We journey to the faraway reaches of the Unseelie Court, as well as visit the Wild Fae Lands, which hitherto have only been referenced in conversation. We also delve more into the history of the Faerie realm, including how and why the two courts formed. Granted, the world building is not the most intricate that I have come across, but not every fantasy needs to be Tolkienesque in its descriptions. The anger and pain unfurls inside me until it hurts worse than the toxin, until it's bigger than my body and darker than the shadows. My shadow self brushes her fingertips over the charred edges of my heart and smiles. Too many years of silence. Too many years of pushing aside my own pain to take care of someone else. Brie: She has never convinced me as a MC and in this case, my opinion of her hasn't changed too much. It stresses me out a lot that she's always thinking "I'm not like other girls" or when she spends half the time wallowing in her self-pity. Like, girl, you got yourself into the bond with Sebastian despite the four hundred warnings you were given! I can't sympathize too much with a character like that.

I have a hate/love relationship with love triangles. I love the angst that comes with it, but on the other hand, I am often so afraid that the main character will not end up with the one I’m rooting for, it creates much anxiety! While the relationships in this book were not exactly a love triangle since Brie made it clear from the start that she was not romantically interested in Sebastian, she is still bonded to him, and that makes everything more complex, and it also gave a kinda love-triangle vibe to the interactions between Brie, Finn, and Sebastian.

I am just as selfish as the males who loved Queen Gloriana. I don’t want pieces of you. I want all of you, and I won’t share.” The journey of self-discovery Brie goes through in this sequel after being turned fae at the end of book one is, in my opinion, the main theme of this book. Yes there is romance, yes there are running issues of politics and social upheaval in the fae realms. But the real star of the show is Brie's development, both in character and power, and the way she navigates her relationships with her newfound fae body. But knowing she’s okay doesn’t make up for the fact that I may never see her again. Of everything Sebastian stole from me, this hurts the worst. If Jas needs me, I won’t be able to return to Elora to care for her. I can never live there again. I can never go home.” Yamada, K. et al. Fulvalene derivatives containing a tetrabenzofluorene unit: new nonplanar fulvalenes with high electron affinity. Synlett 27, 2085–2090 (2016).BREE DID A PRETTY BIG flip-flop from really hating to fae in the first book to wanting to save them all in this book. It worked well into the story so I tried not to think about it too much or else I might like the book less 😆 I always crave the feeling of reading a book and being physically unable to stop. These Twisted Bonds gave me that feeling.
