About this deal

I don't want to miss the point of this film. I know the point of it is the pressures on today's adolescents, and their reactions to some of those pressures, and the effects on families in those circumstances. And if you're going to illustrate those points then you have to show cause and effect, and that means unpleasantness, and shouting matches, and drugs, and manipulation, and under-age sex and so on. You have to have those things in the movie, I get it. Weekly top 30 programmes". BARB . Retrieved 3 October 2017. (see "Weekly top 30 programmes", "BBC2 (SD+HD)", "Year: 2016", "Month: April", "Week: 28 Mar-3 Apr") Thirteen opens with an almighty wallop (literally) as two stoned teenage girls repeatedly punch each other in the face - just for laughs. And the hits just keep on coming in this harrowing, and sometimes heartbreaking, growing pains yarn. The story centres on the average 13-year-old girl who isn't too matured until she is lead to the "cool-girl" lifestyle involving lots of mature subject matter for the movie by her new friend who identifies as the hottest and coolest girl at her school. This is an adolescent story of teenage peer pressure with lots of explicit language, drug and alcohol use, sexual references and grown-up teenage content that floods most teen movies, either dramas or comedies. While walking home from school, Brady offers Tracy a ride and takes her home, where Melanie, Evie, and Brooke are sitting quietly in the living room waiting for her. Brooke, having been convinced by Evie that it was Tracy who was the bad influence, confronts Tracy about her drug use and stealing. Outraged, Tracy insists that Evie was the instigator, but the skeptical Brooke refuses to listen and announces that she is moving Evie to Ojai to keep her away from Tracy. When Melanie defends Tracy's innocence, Brooke pulls Tracy's sleeve up to show her self-harm scars. After a screaming match, Brooke and Evie leave. Tracy weeps in Melanie's arms and attempts to fight against her mother's embrace. She tearfully pleads with Melanie to let go, but Melanie persists and the two fall asleep together on Tracy's bed. The last scene shows a dream sequence of Tracy spinning alone and screaming on a park merry-go-round during the daytime.

You probably already know what the movie's about, but just in case... Here's the plot: "Tracy is a normal 13-year-old trying to make it in school. After befriending the most popular girl at school, Evie, Tracy's world is turned upside down when Evie introduces her to a world of sex, drugs and cash. But it isn't long before Tracy's new world and attitude finally takes a toll on her, her family, and old friends." Catherine helped to facilitate these real bonds between all of us. But at the time, I was so unaware of how unusual that process is,” says Reed. “You don’t get to do that very often. I just thought it was wonderful that I was having sleepovers with friends.” I would be the nerdy, totally-scared-in the-corner friend,” she says. “Everybody else is playing spin the bottle and I’m hiding behind somebody so that the bottle won’t land on me, and I won’t have to admit I don’t have anything exciting to say.” They knew more than I did about being that age at that time and I tried to listen to them and cared about what they thought,” she says.At many points in our lives we all change and perhaps the first time it happens is the hardest to deal with. The stage where everyone seems to go from just being kids to suddenly being a peer group is a major one and this film, for all its extremes, does justice to the difficulties (for everyone) of the period in a story that is well written, cleverly directed and really well acted by the whole cast. The plot builds well on minor changes to Tracy and makes it totally clear where the pressure is coming from and how it affects her; in this regard the script is spot on and is totally convincing. When it goes to extremes it does show signs of stretching and almost breaking but it never does – while it is extreme it is still convincing and only two or three moments seem like they are going too far. Certainly I can't imagine many parents will be able to watch it without worrying about how they and theirs will handle the change when it comes. Ivy's childhood crush, Tim, has since married, but he delays telling this to Ivy. Overwhelmed by events, Ivy runs from her home, and it is Tim who finds her. Carne tells her that she should 'press play' on her life and start living again, and she decides to write a letter to Tim, as they used to do. Later, D.S. Merchant warns Carne that Ivy is getting attached to him; subsequently, Ivy tells him that she trusts him, and he gives her his business card in case she needs someone to talk to. Evan Rachel Wood is outstanding as Tracy, the young girl who so desperately wants to fit in, and will go to any lengths to get that. Wood is always good, but she too has outdone herself, and perfectly nailed the role of Tracy. Not once does she come across as a pretentious actress trying to act like a teen.
