About this deal

it's about a young girl named snapdragon who accidentally befriends the local witch & ends up learning how to use magic for good. it is so pure & wholesome, while also being twisty & enthralling. a true, absolute delight. Gene prediction accuracy with foreign parameters appears to follow GC content more than phylogenetic relationships. For example, Oryza parameters perform reasonably well in Drosophila sequence (>25% genes correct) but very poorly in A. thaliana (5% genes correct). Similarly, for finding C. elegans genes, one is better off with parameters from A. thaliana than D. melanogaster. Choosing the best foreign gene finder is therefore not simply a matter of using parameters from the closest relative. Genomes have significant compositional differences Snapdragon is a unique and perfect story about a witch in the woods, girls who live in a trailer park, and the unexpected web of connections tying everyone together. It’s a book about finding your power, in more ways than one. I laughed and cried, and you will, too!” —Molly Knox Ostertag, author of the Witch Boy series yet... we don’t care: the storytelling - the wonderful characters with all they are grappling with, make us happy campers readers!!!

Is there a current writer in the genre who can be guaranteed never to repeat themselves - and who comes up with an original premise for each new book? Yes there is - and it is the highly individual Belinda Bauer. Snap, her latest novel, continues this pleasing trajectory . . . Bauer (as ever) is very much her own woman, and produces something that exerts a considerable grip on the reader. Crime Time The art style worked well with the story. The color use in particular was incredibly well done. I liked how vibrant the art was. So these were two storylines. There is a third which is introduced as the beginning. A young pregnant woman, Catherine, awakes to find a note with a knife stating “I could have killed you”. She has no idea where it came from and she makes a “snap” decision not to tell her husband about this which ends up almost costing her everything! Families can talk about coping with the loss of a loved one. Compare how Sally and Eddie each react to Willie's decline. How does Eddie's mother's honesty help her come to terms with what's happening? What do you think happens after the book ends?Bedell JA, Korf I, Gish W: MaskerAid: a performance enhancement to RepeatMasker. Bioinformatics 2000, 16: 1040–1041. 10.1093/bioinformatics/16.11.1040 Yeah- yeah.... I know how did they not get caught by social services- and support themselves to boot? Snap is the best kind of crime novel. It gives you chills, it makes you think and it touches your heart. I loved it!' SARAH PINBOROUGH, No.1 bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes

It takes a while for the different threads in this book to come together, to weave their tapestry into the bigger picture, but it is a picture worth waiting for. This is a novel of loss, of grief, of getting by by whatever means possible, of betrayal. But there is also hope and loyalty, and unexpected kindnesses. And humor in the form of Marvel, Reynolds and Rice. Genscan is described as having three intron states but SNAP uses six to prevent stop codons at splice junctions (Genscan does not predict genes with stop codons, but its method to prevent stop codons is not described).Due to the artwork and the not overly understandable magic system, I would say this is 3.5 stars. Rounded down, because if I have pictures, I want them to be consistent. Also the ending, while HEA, was a tad on the unrealistic side for me. It kind of drew me out of the book. I did like it, it made me smile, but it didn't feel realistic, if that makes any sense. I'm not talking about the second-chance lovers, that was AWESOME, but the best friend with the almost bully older brothers being ok with his transformation. That seemed a tad too pat to me. 3, amazingly diverse and heart-warming ending, stars. Due to the subject matter involving the dead animals, I would say this is better for older middle grade on up. Snapdragon by Kat Leyh is a graphic novel bubbling with energy and magic. And friendship! I loved these characters and the bonds they formed. The connections we find in ourselves and others are what make our days special in this world. Discovering who we are AND people to support and surround us is the light in the sky, the sparkle in the glitter, and the joy of it all! Snap learns that and so much more when she comes face to face with the town witch, a woman rumored to have fed her eye to the devil and casts spells with bones from the animals she eats. Is there any truth in the rumors? Read and find out!
