We love everything about the Selk’Bag — it’s essentially an insulated, water resistant onesie, with sleeves and pant legs (in contrast to other unibody-style options) that allow for maximum freedom and mobility for any cold-weather outdoor hang sesh.
Beyond that, it can’t be used as a tarp or an emergency shelter. If you’re looking for a versatile poncho, look elsewhere. As you’ll know if you’ve ever used one, a bivy bag is very prone to condensation. Even with a sleeping bag to absorb some of the moisture, you often wake up pretty clammy, so can you imagine spending a night zipped into the equivalent of a cold plastic trash bag in just your underwear?

Elastic expanders provide safety of use and adjustment possibility when HIDEOUT is used as a blanket or poncho. They are designed to take over any stresses arising during use. When the stresses or forces acting on the HIDEOUT are greater than the expanding capacity, the expander elastic cord will slip out of the hook. This is the last signal and the intended protection against damage. In this way, the plastic hooks at the ends of the expanders act as fuses. Available at various price points, they’re kind of a cross between a sleeping bag and a onesie — and they let you move around in your sleeping bag without doing that awkward caterpillar hop. They’re almost always hooded, and the arms and legs usually have zips at the ends so you can put shoes on or use your hands. The poncho is waterproof. It’ll keep you dry in the rain and you won’t sweat as much as you would in those old military surplus ponchos (because it's not rubberized). But the zipper at the sleeping bag was a pretty good idea. And the mummy shape sleeping bag was the next good idea.Lastly, some users found it too wide. We wish Frog Toggs had added a drawstring at the waist.
