About this deal

On a personal level, Sixteen Souls is the book I desperately needed as a queer teen who, at the time, really wanted to be straight. Reading about LGBTQIA+ characters being the heroes, having adventures and getting to be happy, would have really helped teenage me understand and accept myself. As a book with casual gay, bi, pan, lesbian and trans rep, I’m hoping that Sixteen Souls can be that story for someone else. These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah, and these she bore to Jacob, sixteen persons. These are the sons of Zilpah, which Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls. Sixteen Souls is filled with character, whimsy, high stakes, and a spooky vibe all throughout. Not going to lie, my heart almost leapt out of my throat a few times because it’s impossible to not immerse yourself in the story so completely that it feels like you’re there with the characters. These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls.

Imagine a story that has all the character of York, then fill it with all the ghosts from there too...and whilst you're at it make it QUEER. Perfect if you like books like 'Cemetery Boys', 'The Ninth House', 'The Fell of Dark' and 'The Taking of Jake Livingstone'. If you're thinking TV movies, consider a pinch of 'Scooby-Doo', and a follow up punch of 'The Frighteners'! Especially the first half of the book is like that. Charlie gets constantly in trouble and beaten up and I was biting my nails and screaming “Please give this poor boy a rest!” It gets better in the second half of the book. And this is also justified. The first half of the book Charlie is on his own and refuses to let others help him. In the second half he slowly opens up and finds some old and some new friends and things gets better for him. Sixteen Souls is a fantasy ghost novel set in York (England, not that anyone from Eboracum might recognise this fact). Its power ought to rest upon two important factors: its detailed sense of place; its ability to create tension through character. Unfortunately, Talbot's attempts in both directions are less than successful. Sixteen Souls is a boundlessly clever, heartfelt queer take on the story of a sensitive young man who sees dead people. Talbot has crafted something chillingly delightful! Perfect for any ghoul-lover’s shelf!” - Adam Sass, author of Surrender Your Sons and The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers At the end of the month, join us for a live stream with some of my favourite authors and readers from across social media.A captivating take of loss, friendship and love that had me gripped from first to last. I finished it with a smile on my lips and a tear in my eye.’ Imagine a story that has all the character of York, then fill it with all the ghosts from there too...and whilst you're at it make it QUEER. Perfect if you like books like Cemetery Boys, Ninth House, The Fell of Dark and The Taking of Jake Livingstone.’ These are sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she beareth these to Jacob -- sixteen persons. Pulpit Commentary Verse 18. - These arc the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls. Sixteen Souls will be published this October, this fantasy YA love story follows 16-year-old seer, Charlie Firth, as he realises that ghosts are going missing in York. Can you tell us a bit more about the novel and the inspiration behind it?

These are the children of Zelpha whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she bore these sixteen souls to Yaquuv. That is until a new seer, Sam, comes into town and expects Charlie to join him on discovering why some of the ghosts in town are disappearing. SOULS takes the reader for a wild ride in a heart-stopping aviation and legal thriller propelled by irresistible characters, an agonizingly possible airborne dilemma, and a desperate refusal both in the air and in the courtroom to give up in the face of devastating oA delightfully spooky, humorous and marvellously plot twisty romp that hooked with the promise of ghost-filled antics, that I’m happy to report did NOT disappoint! I loved how EVERY character had a purpose. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses, their own parts to play in the plot, and their own experiences with the Seer gift. Every minor character is a part of Charlie's history, and they all help in some way, with their own limits and different experiences to add to his. No one is a perfect know-it-all, who just happens to be in the right place at the right time, or who just happens to know things they shouldn't. Together, they made a team, and supported each other through every struggle and ordeal. The plot is consistently engaging, unique, and engaging, with a steady flow that allows for plenty of twists and turns without feeling clogged by too many ideas. By combining a newbie Seer with an old pro, we get to see the gift through new eyes, with the benefit of experience to clarify the dangers and reality of such a gift. Incredibly emotive and visceral characters help pave the way for a story that grips you from the start and doesn't let go. Don’t over think your content. It’s often the videos that take you minutes to film that do the best, so just have fun. The key to growth is to post in a niche (books!) and to post consistently (at least once a day) It sounds daunting, but it can become part of your routine. Comment and engage with others and you will meet amazing, like minded readers and authors and will form long-lasting friendships and connections that could lead to amazing things – like a publishing deal with Scholastic in my case! These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons.
