About this deal

The new SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary is the world's first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-mount cameras in the APS-C format to offer a 24mm focal length (35mm equivalent) and F1.4 brightness. The lens for Micro Four Thirds offers a 32mm focal length (35mm equivalent) with the same f-number of 1.4. This is the large-diameter wide-angle lens for which mirrorless camera users have been waiting. like the idea of having a traditional focal length (the 17mm is the closest you’ll find to a 35mm equivalent lens in the AF range) We have previously reviewed both the 30mm F1.4 DC DN and the 56mm F1.4 DC DN. However, whilst I have personally used the 16mm F1.4 DC DN in Sony mount, we have yet to review it thoroughly. So when the Fujifilm version arrived, what better time to review it and briefly summarise the other two lenses in their Fujifilm incarnations. Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN C Features At their respective maximum apertures (1.4 on the Sigma and 1.8 on the Olympus), the 17mm looks ever so slightly sharper but the difference is barely worth mentioning. The rear cap is the twisty plastic kind, and the front is a pinch-style cap. Nothing special there, but they do their job to protect the lens.

So sharpness is absolutely bonkers, but what about any optical quirks and flaws like distortion, CA, vignette, or flaring? Moderate Distortion In the official specifications, Sigma states that the 16mm has a maximum magnification of 1:9.9 (0.1x) but it is unclear whether this is referring to Sony APS-C – the primary system the lens was designed for – or 35mm format. If it is the former, we would expect the magnification to be 0.075x in MFT terms, whereas if it is the latter, it would be 0.05x in MFT terms.

Image quality is similarly great to that already mentioned here with the Fujifilm version. Images display excellent sharpness, fantastic detail and a lovely drop off in focus thanks to the very wide aperture. I’d highly recommend the lens for Nikon Z mount DX users, and even potentially full-frame users too looking for a fast, 24mm lens at a good price. Amy Davies. Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN C Verdict Sony is finally showing some love to their APS-C cameras by launching three new lenses specifically for their crop sensor platform. The Sony 15mm f/1.4 G, which will take on the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN, is a lens designed for photographers and videographers who like to keep things wide. Let’s see how it performs in our full review. Pros While not anywhere near the size of a full-frame lens, this is still pretty large compared to most APS-C primes. French photographer Pierre-Emmanuel Delétrée talks about his impression on the SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary and 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary for Nikon Z mount cameras and his life being a photograher. In addition, a Behind the Scenes video of his visit in SIGMA’s Aizu factory is available as well.

Over the years, many of their lenses have been made out of this material, and generally, it’s shown to be long-lasting, scratch resistant, and strong. The new lens seems to be very good value against these, particularly taking into account the ultra-bright maximum aperture. Easily showcase your photos on-the-go, resolve duplicates, find faces and look for those stunning locations. The optical design and stepping motor deliver smooth autofocus during video shooting. The lens design fully accommodates the Fast Hybrid AF of Sony E-mount cameras for super-fast autofocus functionality. Using face recognition AF results in consistent autofocusing on faces, even as the subjects move. When “Firmware update is complete. It will restart automatically” is displayed, the update is complete. When the message “Lens update complete.” appears on the camera display, the firmware update of the lens is successfully over. Follow the instructions on the screen to close the process. After closing it, remove the USB cable from the camera and the PC. If you pixel peep to the extreme, you may find a marginally sharper image around the edges of the frame, but seriously, F1.4 is almost as sharp. This delightful F1.4 prime lens covers the angle of view equivalent to wide angle 24mm on SONY E-mount and semi-wide angle 32mm on Micro Four-Thirds mount.
