About this deal

Well, I’m sure I need not emphasize that the S12 Pro utilize a custom 14.8mm planar magnetic driver. In the area of technicalities, the S12 Pro have above-average imaging, instrument separation, and layering. Micro-details are decent enough but not class-leading. The soundstage is unfortunately bang average and sounds in-your-head.

LETSHUOER S12 Planar IEM - Head-Fi.org

Sadly, there are no L and R markings on each end to identify the sides, but as per usual convention, the right terminal has a red marker. Case The provided case is practical and unobtrusive. Planar IEMs seem to be what's hot nowadays. With just about every manufacturer using a type of planar magnetic driver for IEMs. For LETSHUOER, the planar IEM is not new but it is always a good sign for a manufacturer to reevaluate a design and improve a release for their audience. LetShuoer (aka Shuoer) is a Chinese company located in Dongguan, Guangdong, China and is specialized in design and development of portable audio equipment’s such like Universal & Custom In-Ear Monitors and USB DAC/Amplifier (DT-02). The soundstage of both IEM’s offers a sufficient level of performance in terms of separation & placement of instruments and vocals. The stage of the 7HZ Timeless is a tad deeper, while the sense of airiness and wideness is pretty similar.

Comfort, Fit and Isolation

Next to blon 03, these are SMALL, smaller than all of my kz’s, for anyone worrying about fit i’m finding them comfy and i have super difficult ears The S12 pro has been a nice surprise for me. This being my very first IEM I have reviewed from Letshuoer. I can understand why there is a following for the S12 and the pro model. It has a solid all metal build with a very easy to use shape. Includes a nice cable with modularity albeit in my opinion is the wrong match up with its sound profile but a high quality cable nonetheless. The monitor is available in two different colour options, which are Nebula Grey and Frosted Silver same like my review unit. The bass of the S12 Pro sounds just a tad fuller and especially in the midbass area. Both are pretty identical in terms of speed, layering and resolution. Instruments such like bass guitar, drums and cellos have a bit more weight and warmth compared to the original S12. In practice, the revamped nozzle filters don’t really change the tuning. The S12 siblings sound highly similar, and one would be splitting hairs to hear a significant difference in A/B testing (well, unless you have golden ears).

The P1 MAX is considerably smoother tuned and subdued from the upper-midrange to the treble so it sounds more inoffensive and forgiving than the S12 PRO. Overall, I wouldn’t describe the S12 as a complex IEM. The impression it gives is of a small but tough piece of gear that can be taken out for a beating. While there are no protruding or awkward edges, the S12 Pro’s nozzles are pretty short. Thus, those with bigger ears may encounter the shell pressing on the concha, leading to slight discomfort, especially when it comes to longer listening sessions. YMMV. Internals It is boosted here but it mainly adds some kind of a metallic - artificial hue to the treble that being fatiguing. I asked about the changes from the prior S12 model vs the Pro model and this was what I got as a response. “ S12 pro got a new color, new cable, nozzle filter for minor tuning change. But basically they are very similar.”

The LetShuoer S12 is a Universal IEM that shows a decent build quality and pretty comfortable fit. It is equipped with a carefully tuned 14.8mm diameter large Planar Magnetic Driver, which offers a pretty lively, dynamic and entertaining presentation from the lows up to the highs. It has not a reference type of sound tuning, but the colorations here and there do make the S12 to pretty suitable In-Ear Monitor for a wide variety of genres. Tests were done with a Khadas Toneboard DAC -> Schiit Asgard 3 amp, E1DA 9038, Questyle M15, Colorfly CDA M1, Tempotec Sonata HD Pro (BHD firmware mod), smartphone, and Sony NW A-55 DAP (Walkman One mod) using FLAC and WAV files. The S12 PRO is resolving, crystal clear and transparent in the mid-range with a natural voicing that is combined with the already excellent bass performance to make for an immersive and realistic listening experience perfectly suitable for classical music and not only. Inside its minimalist shells, the S12 uses a large 14.8mm planar magnetic driver. Planar magnetics are popular in the over-ear world due to their low distortion and high levels of detail. A well-tuned planar can offer a tremendous listening experience, so there has been an almost perpetual demand for high-quality planar magnetic option to enter the IEM space at accessible prices. With a near reference tuning and a good suit of technicalities, the bass is one of the S12 PRO strongest points.
