About this deal

Even though shiseido looks expensive but from the picture, it looks like the quality of muji products looks very much price worthy In addition, MUJI sells “Peelable Cotton”, and “Cotton Puffs” (thanks to Polished & Inspired for pointing this out!) which are not the same as the Cut Cotton. MUJI Cut Cotton WHITE is what you want! 😀

SHISEIDO Facial Cotton | SHISEIDO

There are plenty of great cotton pads to be found at the drugstore, but these take the cake. The quilted texture is strong and durable, easily resisting any piling or shedding. Still, they’re soft enough even to use on the delicate skin around your eyes when you need to take off waterproof mascara or eyeliner.

If you wear eye makeup and use micellar water instead of cleansing oils/balms, you will probably prefer the Shiseido ones since they are harder to rip and less likely to curl up on you. If you love the Shiseido ones and you live in Canada, I think it’s worth it to give the Quo ones a shot. If you have sensitive skin, certain products and tools can wreak havoc on you. That's why it's incredibly important to choose carefully. These cotton pads by MUJI are unbleached, 100 percent cotton, which means they're perfect for those with sensitivities. I was going to make this post a “journey of discovery” and keep it a mystery on whether the MUJI is a dupe or not for the Shiseido, but I’m just going to come out and tell you that YES, the MUJI Cut Cotton in WHITE is indeed a viable DUPE to the cult favourite – and pricey – Shiseido Facial Cotton. I know this post is a few years old but I figured I’d ask – do you know if this product was discontinued? I got my mom to do a blind test to see which one she likes. She preferred the Quo ones because they were softer (and also they were fatter – more layers). I tested them out and agree that the Quo ones are actually softer, but the Shiseido ones are stronger. When you try to tear them, it takes more force to pull the Shiseido ones apart and are therefore better to use for eye makeup (especially waterproof makeup). If you’re only wearing face makeup, the Quo ones are a great way to save some money. You can use the Quo ones for toner and removing face makeup, and buy the Shiseido ones for eye makeup.

Yes, cotton pads are great when it comes to multi-tasking, but they’re admittedly not so great for the environment. Happily, there are now plenty of reusable options to choose from, including these. They’re made from a combination of wood cellulose and short cotton fibers that otherwise can’t be used in the textile industry, making for a result that feels pretty much exactly like any other cotton pad. The difference? They’re machine washable so that each one can be used up to 1750 times. We also love the adorable case they come in, which comes in six different colors and is worthy of displaying on your bathroom counter. Not sure. I just don’t *need* all that stuff, ya know? And I don’t want to line up. ((whine whine)) 😏 When I was scrutinizing the two cottons side by side, I’d say that the Shiseido is ever so slightly softer. But it’s not apparent while I was using them on even the delicate eye area. Honestly – saving 68% allows me to ignore this tiny, almost undetectable discrepancy. I fell into the Shiseido cotton trap because they gave me a small box in a gwp. Of course I fell in love with them… it’s been a long addiction but now I have an alternative! 😉 First, let’s explain what a “dupe” is in the beauty world. A dupe is a product that replicates another product in terms of colour, finish, texture, longevity, performance etc. A mimic, if you will. A dupe is helpful when:Most cotton pads on the market are designed for single use. Though they're usually not exorbitantly expensive, using one or more a day can add up. With larger pads, Dr. Engelman says you can "cut each square in half to make them last longer." I’ve never used facial cotton before (just cotton rounds) – you’re making me believe that I’m missing out on something big here. No Muji here though so I guess I’ll be splurging on the Shiseido ones… These silky smooth cotton pads glide against your skin, an especially important factor when you’re talking about the delicate eye area and removing waterproof mascara or other eye makeup. They’re lint-free and have the added benefit of including a small flap to pop in your fingers, which makes them very easy to hold. Then I did a blind test. I placed both Shiseido and MUJI in my cotton dispenser, randomly alternating them. And I could not tell the difference! 😮 As with the Shiseido, MUJI instructs that you can peel the cotton apart and use them as spot “mask” treatments when soaked with toner / essence. I hope you get to go on that work trip too! (where is it to, may I inquire?) MUJI is just so great all around. 🙂
