About this deal

I don't like the 23's dial so much. Plus it's a bigger watch and don't think the case shape is very comfortable. So for those reasons, I'd go with the snkl45 (I prefer white so would actually go with the snkl41). The dial is an anthracite grey, similar to the SNXS79, which is rich and complex and changes colors slightly in different light scenarios. I would definitely consider a case/guts swap with the SNKL23 bits shifted over to the SNKL4x case. Super-easy swap. Except they you're left with a case and dial combo you don't prefer. I did the same with an SNXS77, for the same reason - didn't like the case, so I swapped everything over to an SNKL4x case. Much better. Sold it just the same. Kept the SNKL41.

The case has a combination of both brushed and polished finishes that are done impeccably well—almost a little too well for the price. The flat brushed surfaces are offset by curved polished areas, which allow the watch to catch light in a way that resembles a luxury watch much more than other watches of this caliber. They’re some of the cheapest automatic watches anyone can buy, meaning they don’t need a battery to run. But, despite their affordable price tag, they have durable, solid movements that will last you for years. And they’re made by Seiko, a brand highly recognized for its exceptional quality and value. The green dial and green nylon strap are nice to look at and would team up well with a white linen button-down, solid colored t-shirt, or even a casual summer suit sans tie.

Free Strap Adjustment

Having a watch case with so many precisely machined edges that vary in their finish, from brushed to polish, is rare in most watches, let alone watches this affordable. The top-brushed lugs are accented by a polished bevel that really adds some visual dimensions when viewing this watch from different angles. Because you asked for opinions, I'll give you mine, but ultimately the decision is for you to make. The two watches are quite similar and I suppose they are so in pricing as well (?). They both have the same movement, same handset and similar overall design. I personally like the simpler design of the SNKL45 dial with a uniform texture on the dial and no framing on the day-date complication. The lume on the "inner" side of the indices also looks better in my opinion and works better with the lume on the handset which doesn't reach all the way to the tip of the hands, making the SNKL45 more legible in the dark as the lume pips are closer to the lume on the handset, if that's of any concern for you. The pips, however, look slightly bigger on the on the SNKL23 so they might glow better and longer but I don't really know if this is the case. But what makes this one of the best Seiko watches, particularly in the chronograph category, is that it automatically receives radio signals to keep the time and calendar precise.

The SNKL45 is becoming harder and harder to find at a good price as it starts to creep up in popularity.

They’re mostly unique designs made by Seiko, a very well-regarded company in the watch world, and while these watches aren’t top-of-the-line (for the price, you can’t expect them to be) they’ve become a bit of an icon in their own right. If you’re the active type and don’t have the budget to amass a stable of Seiko watches for men, avoid formal looks and stainless steel bands. Instead, opt for something along the lines of a field watch, pilot watch, or a digital watch. More of the professional type? Keep things classy with leather bands, smaller case sizes, and sleeper options like moon phase watches. Budget Please fill in the form below (or phone 01244 621704), stating the offer price. Our opening times are Monday to Saturday, 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Made by master craftsmen in one of Seiko’s luxury micro-studios, Grand Seiko timepieces are made of far superior materials to the brand’s flagship collections. This makes them way more expensive, sure, but the quality is right up there with that of some other luxury watchmakers. The watch doesn’t have a sapphire crystal, which helps prevent scratches, nor a screw-down crown, making it a deal-breaker for some. Though, I’ve taken mine on vacation and beat it up. The included hardlex crystal doesn’t have a scratch on it, and despite only having 100 meters of water resistance, I was still able to take this watch swimming in pools and the ocean, without any issues whatsoever. I do love my SNKL41, especially for the case shape. With the 45, the only thing that bothers me is the red second hand. Just that little details shifts it a bit too sport and less dress enough that I don't think it works.

The Seiko 5 Sports GMTs from Seiko change the game. They’re the most affordable automatic GMT watches you can find from a well-known brand. This brings us to the SNXS73K, a simple, understated timepiece with automatic movement and a silver dial to match its silver bracelet and 36.5-millimeter case. It’s a simple piece but qualifies as a dress watch all day. Suit up, have fun, and don’t overthink it. The dive watch wears a lot of hats. Some are catered to the world’s professional divers out there braving the oceanic depths. Others are catered to the swan divers out there braving the deep end of the neighborhood pool. The Seiko 5 Sports SRPD51 falls heavily into the latter camp. Seiko is one of the most prolific watch brands in the world. Its quality materials, best-in-class movements, and largely approachable prices are some of the key factors contributing to the success of Japan’s oldest watchmaker. You may have noticed there are two different types of Seiko 5, the regular with a “5” badge logo, and those with a Seiko 5 Sports logo. How do these two differ? Wanted to get an older Seiko 5 model before the supply runs out for good. I limited my choices down to the SNKL23 and SNKL45 as an everyday/ dress watch, but I can't decide on which I like more. The SNKL45 has the nicer case and bracelet, but the SNKL23 has the nicer dial IMO. I know the SNKL23 is famous because of the HODINKEE article. Thoughts? Would it be worth it to just put the SNKL23 dial into the SNKL45 case? It’s hard to go wrong with a watch with such classic dimensions that looks great on any wrist, looks great on just about any strap and happens to be one of the most affordable automatic watches you can buy.
