About this deal

Jeff: Aside from a few minor limitations, such a foothold, warm upper, no lace garage or Endofit, I find the Supercross to be an excellent addition to the Salomon line up in that it is a very fairly priced shoe with enough performance, comfort, traction, durability and versatility to satisfy a wide variety of runners and hikers who are looking for maximum value.

These were just enough to handle everything short of what might require a waterproof shoe or something with additional traction. Salomon is renowned for producing shoes that have excellent outsoles, and the Supercross 3 fall right into that category. The shoe has a Contagrip outsole that combines an aggressive lug pattern with excellent durability.Another thing you may want to consider is that they are best used one or less per week so I wouldn't have them as you're daily running shoe. The Salomon S/LAB Ultra 3 trail running shoe provides a comfort level so high you'll think you're wearing a road running shoe. With a highly breathable, lightweight upper and a midsole made of the most durable foam, you'll experience comfy cushioning and protection for long-distance use. However, Salomon does recommend this shoe is for occasional use, which usually means once or twice a week. This fact suggests the Supercross 3 is not as durable as some of Salomon's other ranges. The Supercross 3 GTX has a Contragrip rubber outsole, giving you maximum traction on mixed terrain. The aggressive chevron lug pattern offers multi-directional grip, which is perfect for softer ground and surfaces with loose dirt.

Boasting maximum cushioning and GORE-TEX to keep the wet out, the Salomon Supercross 3 is a great option for a lighter trail run that doesn't require too much protection from loose and uneven ground. I have the XA Elevate and I am looking for another pair as winter shoes with better grip in the wet/mud/snow. I was first considering the Speedcross 5 but the Supercross seems a good option.

Comparison to Similar Trail Runners

A very aggressive sole allows for some semi-rugged trail running but does not deter a leisurely run around an urban trail area. The shoe is lightweight for a trail runner, has a responsive feel, and boasts a comfortable fit.

When running on the wet and muddy ground, the shoe's deep chevron lugs dig into the ground, anchoring you in place. This gives a solid base for push-off from when taking a stride and digging into the ground when braking and changing direction. Salomon always boasts a fabulous outsole, it grips like teeth to the ground and is great on both wet and dry ground. The lugs with deep penetration offer superb grip on soft surfaces such as mud or loose dirt. The ripstop fabric is perfect for trail shoes as it reinforces that ripping, abrasion, and tearing resistance.

🍪 Privacy & Transparency

You can see the massive difference between the height of the foam underfoot in the forefoot and the heel. The heel is very protective, while the forefoot is rather sensitive. You can also see that while there are a lot of overlays on the upper, the crease point on the forefoot is left exposed to abrasion and early tearing.
