About this deal

The numerous buttons make it difficult to access everything the S6 can do without consulting the instructions at least once, but setting up its basic functions is easy enough.

Best DAB radios for digital radio in the UK in 2023

DAB digital radio brings you a diverse range of great content in highly-detailed, digital-quality sound much of which is only available on digital radio. DAB/DAB+ radios automatically find all your available stations and let you select them by name, and there’s also access to FM for any station(s) that have not yet gone digital. However, the wireless charging will only be useful if you have a relatively recent flagship smartphone or compatible case.

Some models have ports so you can connect a cable and charge your smartphone. Some may have a built-in wireless charging pad too. Battery power

However, it also comes with a wider range of features, including the unique Siesta button, the Bluetooth connectivity to play your own content, and USB charging. Measuring 147 millimeters in width, the Pure Siesta S6 has a sleek and compact design that fits well on any bedside table. The device's premium materials ensure its durability over time, making it a reliable addition to anyone's morning routine. This DAB radio can simulate sunrise to wake you up in a gentle way. You can choose one of the 31 sleep/wake sounds or set it to your preferred radio station to go with its gradual brightening light. DAB+ is more efficient, delivers better sound quality and broadcasts more stations. Not every British station has caught on and made the switch to broadcasting on DAB+ quite yet though. You don’t get the precise control of an analogue knob for scrolling through radio stations, but pressing the button to move through different wavelengths will just about do. Verdict

Siesta - Pure Siesta - Pure

This Pure model is another one that makes for an ideal bedside radio. Where this one works best is for its alarms. You can set four alarms (either to a DAB station or a tone) and have different times for weekdays and weekends. As we’ve said, DAB audio quality can far exceed that of FM. Sometimes radios also offer ways to control the music through dials or an equaliser menu (so you can tweak the bass and treble). Wattage You can choose to either wake up to the radio or a standard alert tone, which gradually becomes louder; it doesn’t sound particularly pleasant, but that’s probably the point. There’s no option to use music from your phone, which is a shame, particularly since it’s likely to be connected via that USB port anyway.I like that you can charge your phone via the USB port over night, though feel they could have added at least another port, I’ve seen competitors with two or three USB charging points. I also like that you can set up to four alarms. There’s been very few instances where I’ve need four, but I have, and at least this way, every eventuality is covered. The volume control has 32 distinct levels, though anything under 10 is basically muted, and even 32 won’t shake the walls – especially given the meagre bass levels. The Siesta Charge won’t do for hosting a house party, but for listening to the radio in your kitchen or dancing around your bedroom it will do just fine. You can also pre-set up to 40 FM or digital radio stations, to save you scrolling through long lists of stations every time you want to find Heat FM (though setting 40 of them may slightly defeat the purpose). We test DAB radios the way you would use them at home. We look at how easy they are to set up and use, and how intuitive it is to set their alarms, switch them off and hit snooze.
