About this deal

We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. —JOSEPH CAMPBELL” Madia is completely detached in some of the sections, especially the section concerning Dagwood’s incident. She writes from what I recognize as a place of self-preservation, one step removed, but it still reads raw. All my life, I’d assumed it was only brave people who did brave things. I’d never once considered how many of them were absolutely terrified.”

Nowhere for Very Long Quotes by Brianna Madia - Goodreads Nowhere for Very Long Quotes by Brianna Madia - Goodreads

Brianna knew her road would be the one less traveled from an early age. Rejecting the competitive and capitalistic path set out before her, she chose to seek a different version of happiness, a road scary, uncertain, and entirely her own. But pursuing a life of intention isn’t always what it seems. In fact, at times it was downright boring, exhausting, and even desperate—when the van overheated and she was forced to pull over on a lonely stretch of South Dakota highway; when the weather was bitterly cold and her water jugs froze beneath her as she slept in the parking lot of her office; when she worried about money, her marriage, and the looming question mark of her future. But she was living a life true to herself, come what may, and that made all the difference. It tastes like sunbaked earth that leads to a hidden spring that no one knows about but you. It smells like flowers growing wild and untamed. It sounds like howling at the moon. A searing, deeply moving memoir of illness and recovery that traces one young woman’s journey from diagnosis to remission and, ultimately, a road trip of healing and self-discovery.To be inside those canyon walls was to be cradled in the arms of the earth itself. I felt hidden out there. Safe. As if I could just slip away and be carried off to rest among Indian paintbrush and coyote willow. Left there undisturbed, untouched. Buried somewhere in the sand like pottery.” If you know Madia’s story, she does frankly talk about the controversy surrounding her dog being hit by a car, though not enough that would satisfy her critics. I had never heard of Madia before this book, so I didn’t feel betrayed by her mistakes. Instead, I was caught up in her unique voice in describing the beauty of the Utah deserts.

Edit: The blinded-by-influencer commenters below will learn they've been fooled. Maybe not now, maybe not for a long time. But the truths of BM will come out. There is hope. However, pursuing a life of intention isn't always what it seems. In fact, at times it was downright boring, exhausting, and even desperate--when Bertha overheated and she was forced to pull over on a lonely stretch of South Dakota highway; when the weather was bitterly cold and her water jugs froze beneath her as she slept in the parking lot of her office; when she worried about money, her marriage, and the looming question mark of her future. But Brianna was committed to living a life true to herself, come what may, and that made all the difference. Even as I stood there in the middle of the road beside that giant orange mess of metal, it all seemed so peaceful. There had been no dramatic explosion, no horrible screeching car accident, no burst of fire consuming her whole. Bertha just rolled silently to a stop one day on a completely nondescript dirt road that sliced through a sagebush field, and it was over. The book hasn't be released yet, and the description is very deceitful for a social media influencer to be described as someone running away from capitalism. To Briana’s supporters, consider reading this. I was a big Briana fan and I spouted the exact same messages I see people commenting here, until one day I looked a little deeper and found things didn’t add up. The things I mention here are found in her posts and stories over the years, I am not mentioning any information I did not see myself. I was quite impressed with how she handled her ex-husband throughout the work. It’s respectful and delicate. Her memories, even the bad ones, are soaked in the love she had for him – the love they had for each other. They were both Lost Boys; tragedy forced him out of Neverland and her further in.

But even the most beautiful stories can have tragic endings. They can also have beautiful endings. Though I suspect any story worth telling has a little bit of both.” A middle finger to the only way of life I'd ever witnessed. Grow up. Go to school. Get a job. Get married. Buy a house. Have some kids. Make a lot of money. Buy a bunch of stuff. Work constantly to afford all the stuff. And then hope you're still alive and able-bodied enough to go out and see the world.” However, pursuing a life of intention isn’t always what it seems. In fact, at times it was downright boring, exhausting, and even desperate—when the van overheated and she was forced to pull over on a lonely stretch of Wyoming highway; when the weather was bitterly cold and the water jugs froze beneath her as she slept in the parking lot of her office; when she worried about money, her marriage, and the looming question mark of her future. But she was living a life true to herself, come what may, and that made all the difference. The point of music is not to get to the end, and the point of dancing is not to get to one place in the room.”

While this book isn't perfect, it is beautiful. Brianna Madia's voice is unique and insightful. She has a wonderful way of describing emotions and scenery, which is what initially drew me to her writing. I can't wait to see where she takes us next. Madia is an excellent writer. You can’t ask more from a writer than to be as funny and honest as she is about her personal life, to be able to take a bad experience and laugh at herself in retrospect, to be truthful about not knowing what the hell she was—and is—doing half the time. But she did it anyway, trying and failing, and then trying again anyway. Her bravery shines through each pitfall. But I suppose that’s what they say about parents. They usually want their children to go out and become all the things they never thought to be, do all the things they didn’t think they could.” As horribly cliché as it sounds, it felt for the first time that my soul had perhaps lived once before. And if it had, it most certainly lived here.” Our servers are getting hit pretty hard right now. To continue shopping, enter the characters as they are shown
