She doesn’t want Alix talking to anyone but her. Not her mother, not Walter, not Brooke or her daughters.

When two women who share a birthday meet, a journalist becomes the subject of her own true-crime mystery. In light of the fact that Roxy killed Brooke and framed Josie, could Roxy have killed Walter and Erin? None of This is True is a psychological thriller about two women who, through a chance encounter, learn they are birthday twins. Their unlikely meeting turns into a podcast in which shared confidences become the motive for murder. I read this in day which I am deliberately not doing any more, because this was such a captivating read and a great book overall.

Alix questions the school secretary about Josie, as their kids attended the same school. She also talks to the son of a neighbor, who is around Josie’s kids age. Both say that Josie and her family are very troubled.

Table of Contents

Josie tells Alix she is about to make big changes in her life and wants Alix to document it for her podcast. Alix agrees, as this could be her big break. As the interviews unfold, we learn the secrets of both women. In what ways does class influence the book’s events? How do the two families’ different social classes factor into the plot?

Josie’s life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can’t quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix’s life—and into her home. Josie presents her “hook.” She met Walter, her current husband, when she was 15 and he was 42 and married. Josie insists she wanted to be with Walter and there was no coercion. Link to an interview by Lisa Jewell that discusses her thoughts on the ending AND her offer in comments to answer questions!None of This Is True--but what is true and what isn't? That's the question I was asking myself throughout my reading. As I was writing up the summary, I realized how many there were. Yes, some of the interview transcripts were after the fact, but Josie was stealing things on camera. She was sneaking around. Her own mother said she was a liar. Nathan didn’t like her. She was clearly trying to undermine Alix’s marriage and get Nathan out of the way.
