About this deal

There are two sheets of plastic, laid one on top of the other. The top one is translucent and forms the surface that the pen touches when drawing. In 1974, four engineers from Pilot Pen Corporation invented a "dustless chalkboard." Their invention has become one of the most popular drawing toys, with more than 40 million sold since its introduction. Countless children have enjoyed playing and learning with it. Ah, the Etch-a-Sketch. Now, while I admit it can (I say ‘it can’ – I personally am only ever able to draw wonky-looking houses on it) produce some extremely clever pictures, for those who aren’t able to get on with its knob-twiddling technique there arrived its slightly simpler cousin Magna Doodle. Mr Toys may elect to return the product to the manufacturer's repair agent to determine the nature of the problem. So now we know just how much the Magna Doodle is adored, we obviously want to know how it works. Don’t we?

This magnetic drawing board table can be configured in three different ways, making it an exceptionally versatile item. When your child is younger, you can extend the legs and use the board in its table form, making it an ideal option for use while sitting on the floor. Now I’ll admit right now that the nuts and bolts of how something is technically put together isn’t really something my brain seems to be able to grasp, so the actual science part of it goes right over my head. However, if you just want to be able to vaguely understand why you can draw a line on the surface of the Magna Doodle when the stylus isn’t really a pen, then I’ll give it a go…

A magnetic drawing board — like the iconic Magna Doodle — has long been a toy favored by kids (and parents!) because of how much freedom it gives them to express their creative side in a fun, no-mess way. The best magnetic drawing boards on today's market, however, have come along way from that classic graphite design. Besides carrying handles and tethered pens, you'll find multicolored boards, fun accessories, and some are even smartly designed to help build on language and motor skills. The board has two pens. One sits within a recess and is attached by a cord and if your child misplaces one, they can play with the other until you find it. There are also two shaped stamps that sit within the larger board’s frame.

A pen attached by a string. Ensure the string is long enough to be usable, but not so long as to be dangerous. In the TV comedy Friends, a Magna Doodle is visible in Joey and Chandler's apartment, with various messages written on it throughout the series, referencing plot points, current events, inside crew jokes, or just random drawings. [6] Most of the boards on this list are already great for car rides or restaurant entertainment, but if you're looking for one in a smaller, more compact size this Wellchild magnetic drawing board with its 4 by 6 inches display is a fantastic option. And it even comes with its own adorable drawstring carrying bag! In addition, it boasts four-color drawing zones, an attached pen, and three magnetic stamps (with holders along the side). Made of BPA-free plastic with a sliding eraser, this is also one of the most affordable magnetic drawing boards you're likely to find.If you're a 90s kid or had children or grandchildren in the 90s in the UK, you'll probably remember some if not all of these vintage toys and games, and some might even still be lurking in your loft. The tip of the pen is spring-loaded, which prevents damage to the screen if your toddler pushes down too hard. The toy was originally invented at Pilot Corporation, which registered "Magna Doodle" as a trademark in the U.S. in 1986, and has owned the underlying rights to the brand ever since. [1] And they’re not just used as toys, despite being marketed as such. Teachers have used them to encourage their students to read and write – they can practise over and over again without using up resources or leaving that chalk dust covering everything. Team coaches have been known to scribble on them during sports matches, so that they can then hold them up and show the team in action what they want them to do next.

The screen on this magnetic doodle board is 17×13.77 inches, making it a good option for toddlers who may not yet have the fine motor skills to enjoy writing on a smaller board.

2. This Affordable & Compact Option That Comes With Its Own Bag

It was in 1974 that engineers from the Pilot Pen Corporation invented what they described as the ‘dustless chalkboard’. Sold by toy companies Tyco in the US and Fisher Price in the UK, the rights to this inventive little drawing board now rest with The Ohio Art Company, who also own the Etch-a-Sketch. These boards can also be taken on car, train, boat, and plane journeys, and they won’t create a mess on grandma’s carpet the way paints might. Smaller boards are easy to throw into a bag as take-a-long amusement. But larger boards can be more suitable for teaching and kids who enjoy making big creations. Pilot Corporation of America v. Fisher-Price, Inc. and Mattel, Inc. (Ruling on Motion for Preliminary Injunction), 3:04cv977( D.D.C.2004-11-09). With so many neat drawing boards to consider, the first thing to think about is how you intend for your child to use it. If it's simply to let their imagination run wild, a straightforward, colorful model with a stylus and sliding eraser will keep them entertained. Besides extras (like magnets or stencils), the biggest difference you'll find between those is the size of the drawing pad itself. An 8 by 10-inch (the size of printer paper) display offers plenty of doodle space, but consider an even more compact one if you want extra portability.
