About this deal

So the reason I am refraining from rating the book is NOT because I didn't like it, it's because I don't think it's fair to rate a book 1 star because of a romance plot (even though that's the whole book), but I'm not rating the book 5 stars when I didn't like the main storyline. So if you're looking for a decision whether to read this or not, I leave you with all of that information and you can decide what to do with it. Rosie's been through a lot. She had been heartbroken a lot of times. When Alex moved. When she got pregnant. When Alex got engaged. When Alex got married. When she had husband issues. Her frustrations with her career. There were a lot of things that put her down, but each time, she stood up stronger than before. So proud of Rosie. She gets into Boston University, Alex gets into Harvard, and everything is falling into place, when on the eve of her departure, Rosie gets news that will change their lives forever: She’s pregnant by a boy she’d gone out with while on the rebound from Alex. Rosie - Rosie is the main protagonist of the story. She is a sassy (Oh man - the sass is so strong) and a strong-willed young mother who finds that her life goes more like one of those windy and vomit-inducing roller coasters than those basic, 'You go up, you go down, then you arrive at the ending slightly scared, exhilarated, and wishing to do it all again'. There were plenty of times where I just wish that something went well for her, for once, but her life was one of realistic disappointments and glimmers of hope. She is such a beautiful character; one who is thinking of others even though inside all she wants to do is for once, be selfish and do something for herself. Her love and care for Katie reminded me of my mum's towards me. And I oddly resonated with her when she was 18-19 and not knowing what to do with her life, albeit I don't have a baby at 18 and she did. That uncertainty, the fear of 'I don't know what I'm doing and now I realise that no one else does either', is crippling. Watching her jump from job to job also related to me at this time in my life, and it was surprisingly insightful for a rom-com genred book. She was a fleshed out character that came to life during these tragedies and hardships that she dealt with, and the more things that happened to her the more I'd tear up with her. She is one of my favourite female protagonists :) Siempre quise hacerle una reseña apropiada a este libro (o aunque sea un comentario decente). Pero no me sentía capaz de expresar lo que me había causado. Y hoy, justo en este momento cuando debería estar estudiando, de pronto me dan ganas de hacerlo.

I am highly torn over whethether to give this three or four. If I had the choice, it'd be 3.5, so 4 would be over rating it. 3, on the other hand, is under rating it. I've gone with three because I prefer to under rate than over rate. So yeah... on to the review... Alex Stewart: The other main character of the book, originally from Dublin where he grew up with Rosie, his family moves to Boston where Alex eventually becomes a surgeon. Alex gets married there, but later discovers that he has feelings for Rosie. I admit, I never have wanted kids, infact I am violently against having children and this book just further reminded me why I don't want kids. Rosie is a great mother in that she sacrifices LITERALLY her entire life for her daughter, but I don't have it in me for that. This is a classic example of having the love of your life right in front of you, but being too blind, you are unable to reach out and take it. Rosie and Alex lived this experience and let me tell you that it truly hurt knowing they lost a lot of years not giving in to their instincts and feelings. SOME SPOILAGE AND RANTING ENSUES – CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. HOWEVER, BEING AS THIS IS STANDARD ROM-COM FARE, THE ENDING SHOULDN’T REALLY THROW ANY OF YOU FOR A LOOPThe worst thing about Love, Rosie was the way that Alex treated women all the way through this book. There was never really a lot of love between them and I always thought that they were seen as being disposable or to fit a purpose in his life. I just didn’t think that he was all that and I definitely wouldn’t be interested in him if I had known everything he had put his families through. Katie (who is 12 at this instance) had brought along her best-friend Toby on the trip. The two remind Alex and Rosie of their childhood. Toby tries kissing Katie and she doesn't respond positively to it. Alex and Rosie calm down Katie and Alex tells her that if she doesn't respond to him correctly now, she will regret it for the rest of her life and keep looking for people who will just fail to be as good-enough for her. Alex reminds Rosie of her 18th birthday where the two actually kissed before she passed out. Rosie finds herself pregnant after a one night stand with Brian, and the way she had planned her life takes a sharp direction change. Rosie stays home to care for a newborn baby girl named, 'Katie' and Alex goes to Harvard and studies to be a doctor. She bumps into Bethany one day and the information of the baby gets passed on to Alex. In an impromptu visit, he comes down to see her. He asks Rosie if he can be Katie's Godfather. Rosie is visibly overwhelmed. Rosie Dunne: One of the main characters who lives in Dublin with her daughter Katie and has always dreamed of working in a hotel. The book follows her relationship with best friend Alex as distance and circumstances are forever testing their friendship. Rosie begins to question whether she was always meant to be more than friends with Alex and these feelings soon begin to take effect on their friendship.

It took a long time, but the ending just made me really happy, contented, and just... i dunno how to explain it. It made me believe that if two people are meant to be together, fate will find a way for them to be. Sweet without being saccharine, this 2014 gem juggles the dreams of carefree youth and the fallout from when life’s best-laid plans go awryRosie Dunne I love you with all my heart, I have always loved you even when I was seven years old and lied about falling asleep on Santa watch, when I was ten years old and didn’t invite you to my birthday party, when I was eighteen and had to move away, even on my wedding days, on your wedding day, on christenings, birthdays, and when we fought. I loved you through it all. Make me the happiest man on this earth by being with me.

It was torture getting to the final chapter where everything worked out how I wanted it to but I was left feeling unfilfilled. I've never ever been so frustrated in my life. I hated this book so much it has become one of my favourites. July 1988: Emma and Dexter meet for the first time on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways. This book will simultaneously make you laugh and cry. The characters are especially lovable and engaging, as they are each flawed and faced with struggle, making them ever more relatable and believable. This only results in emphasising the emotions felt whilst reading this rollercoaster book, which is similarly beautiful and tragic. I really loved Rosie, the main character who gave up her future when accidentally pregnant as a teenager. I felt that she portrayed a different kind of teen mother, and led me to question the stereotypes portrayed by the media today. She was also such a person, which may sound weird but when put into context is wonderful. Realistic and relatable characters are so unusual nowadays, that it was strangely refreshing to discover someone with whom you could shout alongside, not at. Katie - Something you didn't see in the movies with Katie is that she grows up to be older than 20+. She has her own life, wants to be a DJ and so she travels to be with her biological father, Brian, and has a best friend named Toby which turns into her lover as they grow older (Like...around 35 or something like that, I forget) In the movie Katie is just used as a plot for why it takes so long for Rosie and Alex to get together, but in the books Katie is her own person, a character worth loving and worrying over. I'm saddened by it, but again, cuts and adjustments had to be made for the film. I love that quote - I really do. But seriously, how many years of mistakes did it take them to even realize they were perfect together??? She and her books have won numerous awards, including the Irish Book Award for Popular Fiction for The Year I Met You.
