About this deal

Buku pertama yang ditulisnya berjudul “The Thing You Can Only See When You Slow Down”. This book is one of my favorite books that I can self-reflect on & spend free time reading. It makes me think about my actions - about my emotions reveals. Enjoying every emotions deep down my heart after neglecting it all. The Buddha, somewhat rebelliously, declared that, instead of a god or guru, the starting point of our path to awakening is our very own imperfections. I’m so happy to see Haemin Sunim giving fresh voice to practices that help us befriend ourselves, so that we can become our own best caregivers.”— Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, author of Emotional Rescue and Rebel Buddha

you won’t be happy if you’re always striving for more or better. Happiness comes when our hearts are peaceful and content, and when we learn to appreciate what we already have.” We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Those words from French philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin have always resonated with me, ever since I first heard Talib Kweli paraphrase them in a Reflection Eternal song called "2000 Seasons" in 1997. Rather than chasing the spiritual, I found the words to be a call for raising our humanity—to understand it as the precious gift that it is, a reminder to remain present and attuned to the life we have, to the life all around us. Susan Cain, New York Times bestselling author of Quiet: "The world could surely use a little more love, a little more compassion, and a little more wisdom. In Love for Imperfect Things, Haemin Sunim shows us how to cultivate all three, and to find beauty in the most imperfect of things--including your very own self." Haemin Sunim’s Love for Imperfect Things is a great salve for the struggle. It is a reminder that we are more than the jobs we hold, the grades we get, and the roles we play. A Zen Buddhist teacher from Seoul, Sunim’s writing helps us give ourselves some space to stop becoming—and to just be. When things go wrong, when we are hurt, when we fail, we tend to want to lean in and fix things. As the world speeds up, we run frantically trying to catch up—to the news, to the pace of change, to all the people we see as more successful and smarter and more savvy than we are.

It took a lot of courage to finally decide to read this book. Being brave, fast, detailed, & decisive are my characters, however being calm is like jumping out of the comfort zone that I have built all this time. One of the greatest human triumphs is to choose to make room in our hearts for both the joy and the pain, and to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.Don’t think you are lovable only when you succeed at what the world demands. You are already worthy of love.”

Thinking too much can make it difficult to act. If you just do it, then it is done. But if you give in to your thinking, your mind will get in the way, telling you “you can’t,” “you shouldn’t,” “you don’t want to.” In that case, get up early the next morning and just do the thing you’ve been putting off. If you give yourself time to start thinking about it, inaction will take hold again.” Were you one of those children who were praised for being “good”? Did you then try hard to be good by always agreeing with parents, teachers, or older relatives? Even if sometimes it was hard, you learned not to complain and bore it quietly? And now that you’re an adult, do you still feel a responsibility to please other people? Do you constantly make an effort not to disturb or be a burden on others? But when there’s someone who makes things difficult for you, you try just to ignore it or put up with it, because it is not in your nature to do or say something that can potentially hurt someone or make someone feel uncomfortable?
