My main reason for reading this was because it was a recommended text for a KS2 mountain based topic. I did enjoy the text once I got past chapter 4 as I found the first few chapters difficult to engage with. Michael Morpurgo is a master storyteller, former Children’s Laureate and multi-award winner. She first won popular and critical success with her novel That Lass O' Lowries (1876-7), and consolidated it with a series of popular novels and plays. Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886) was the most successful in her own lifetime, but she is probably most admired today for her children's classics A Little Princess (1905) and The Secret Garden (1911). Two unhappy marriages marred Mrs Hodgson Burnett's private life but she became an American citizen in 1905 and settled in Long Island until her death in 1924.The Author David Wood, chair of Action for Children’s Arts, said Morpurgo is “one of our greatest storytellers”.

Aunque tiene ideas muy buenas, me parece un Morpurgo desafinado: uno de sus puntos fuertes, que es crear tensión, aquí falla, y da la sensación de que el escritor iba descubriendo la historia mientras avanzaba, pero también iba olvidándose de lo que había escrito anteriormente. Además, el autor va plantando elementos que parecen importantes, pero que luego no pintan nada; y cierra la novela con demasiadas casualidades. This book was not what I was expecting. I only read one book of Morpurgo's before and I was excited to read more. Even though it was not as good as 'Private Peaceful', it still has some pleasant qualities. It is fast paced, unique and there a constant development between the characters. The ending was great.

Michael's books have been translated into many languages including Chinese, Bulgarian and Hungarian, Hebrew and Japanese. He travels all over the UK and abroad talking to people of all ages at literary festivals, telling his stories and encouraging them to tell theirs. Ashley is seperated from Uncle Sung and finds himself living with gentle creatures, who revere him as a King ( or a God). The Yeti. This book is amazing. If you are the sceptical type, you'll think its all made up or maybe you are a believer. Whichever you are, this is an amazing story and Morpurgo deserves the title, 'The Master Storyteller'. Such an accurate protrayal of the Himalayas would be hard to find in fiction. This wonderful mythical story, epic in scale sees a lost boy befriended and saved by yetis. Incredible emotions are evoked between them as they are each reliant on communication by gesture rather than spoken word. It’s a gem of a book and one that like Escape from Shangri-Lawill appeal equally to someone of 10 or 110.
