Did he?” Oswald was startled. “He never mentioned it to me. Just told me to look after his dogs and Meldon,” he said dryly. Meldon was the Vawdrey family retainer and a curmudgeonly old sod that Oswald would rather pension off then keep in his employ. I’m sorry I kept over-reacting,” he said ruefully. “It’s the strangest thing, I’ve always considered myself the most even-tempered Vawdrey in existence. Then you came along and shattered my equanimity to a thousand pieces.” I’m also sad that this book didn’t have an epilogue. I’m glad we get glimpses of this couple in future books, but I still want more! The poor woman was so out of her confort in court! She didn't know anything about the court life and intrigue, so she just fell into one bad situation after another! And nothing was her fault because she did everything with the best intentions!

Oswald smiled. “Do you imagine you were discreet in that thought, Linnet?” he asked making her laugh. Better make sure Lady Eden Montmayne don’t lose her head and run off with a lute player,” said Cuthbert. “Or you’ll really be for it.”Oswald lost his head since the beginning: he became jealous-crazy! He manipulated poor Fenella until she didn't understand anything at all!!! I hate that the heroine, Fenella spent eight years married to another man. But thankfully she brought no offspring from that marriage with her. I detest when main characters have already bred issue with other people.

A sudden suspicion had his mind reeling. Surely, surely that bastard Thane could not be so inept, that she knew not the pleasures of the marriage bed?I like historicals and the medieval era is a nice change from the traditional regency romances. Alice Coldbreath is becoming one of my favorite authors in this genre. Happily, this book was everything I was hoping for. I admit that I didn't like Oswald at the beginning because of his attitude to Fenella. He was especially harsh towards her, and I didn't like how he took advantage of Fenella's situation. Fen’s character is less defined (beyond being sweet and kind of naive). I found her likeable if not particularly memorable. Holy hells. He didn’t have it in him to debate with her any further. With a muffled groan he surged forward into her, bracing his arms against the mattress to try and keep himself from squashing her flat into the mattress. She gave a faint yelp, but offered no resistance as he hammered into her with renewed vigor. “Fenella,” he said hoarsely. For no fathomable reason he wanted her eyes on him, her mouth on him, her hands on him. The poor girl had no idea. He was so greedy for her, it actually scared him a little. How did you tell your wife you wanted her hands squeezing your ass, tight? Her mouth, framing your name? Oswald shook his head. It had never entered his head to ask such a thing of any bed-partner. It beggared belief that he would want it now from his wedded wife. So, now we begin this book (like the last one) with a married couple - in a moc. But unlike the hot, grouchy and me-mine H of book #1, this one is cool customer. Very cool. Outside the bed, that is.

I’m definitely a fan of this series and I’m hoping so very much that I’m going to love Roland’s story as much as I have these first two.

Fenella Thane is a desperate woman. Her absentee husband of eight years has served her with divorce papers and she looks likely to lose her beloved home and be forced into a convent.

We would not suit each other at all you know,” said Oswald. “Enid would be a demanding sort of wife. She would not appreciate a husband who left her in the country while he pursued his career at court.”His pained expression cleared. Her own body was plainly seeking the same release as his. “There?” he asked with relief, following her lead. He moved his own hips experimentally in a similar motion, and felt a deep shudder run through her whole body. She gave a strangled gasp and struggled to sit up. “No – please,” she sobbed. “You must - stop that at once. Or I hardly know what will happen!” But if he no longer wishes to be my husband, why should he keep what is mine? What was my father’s.” asked Fenella in a voice that shook.
