DC February 2022 Solicitations - Comic Releases DC February 2022 Solicitations - Comic Releases

This was an interesting take on the 'normal person's point-of-view' in the 'world of super heroes.' It did remind me of Marvels, to be honest, except I did like the artwork in Marvels more than I liked the artwork in this series. That being said, I did feel that the artwork in this series matched the overall tone of the series in terms of how hopeless the series really seemed to be. The tones were the right color to create the sense of darkness and dreariness and hopelessness that permeated the story. Also, it takes place in Gotham City, which has "the most corrupt police force" in the US of A (at least, on the East Coast, but I doubt the entire planet). The character development was pretty decent; by the end, it felt like the story was about one person's journey in particular, despite the series tending to focus on four-to-six 'main' characters. Still, though, the ending is quite jarring and unexpected. It was not 'cut nice and neat,' and it left me a bit disappointed as a result (as there were some story lines that went unresolved, in my opinion). Still, though, I guess that means the ending did match the overall tone of the book, so maybe the ending was better than I thought it was. I just know I was unhappy with it (but, then again, life's not always going to be 'a happy ending,' either). There's a realistic viewpoint throughout the stories, despite the fantastical elements of Batman, the Rogues Gallery, Metahumans, strange chemicals et al. This is the kind of superhero police procedural you can really get behind and enjoy.
