About this deal

The R1850DB’s small but smart improvements across the frequency range, especially when it comes to the bass and mids, result in a more refined and complete listening experience compared to the R1700BT. Located at the rear of the primary unit you’ll find both Treble and Bass control. These work as intended and allow for fine-tuning. A handy feature especially if you want to use these for mixing due to the slightly unbalanced default setting. As is the norm with bookshelf speakers of this design, the two speakers cover both active and passive. Apart from the rear of the speakers, they are the same size and you won’t be able to distinguish between the two.

Edifier R1850DB has a remote control. The recessed buttons feel natural, but the remote is inherently flimsy and will likely not last long. Specifications Edifier R1700BT Every aspect of Edifier’s R1850DB bookshelf speakers are designed with purpose. The medium-density fibreboard [MDF] enclosure reduces distortion and minimises acoustic resonance. The base of the speaker is angled at a 10-degree incline for dynamic precision and delivery. The design of the angle directs sound from the woofers right to your ears producing 70 watts of balanced quality tunes. Edifier’s R1850DB active bookshelf speakers are a stand out in both categories of style and performance. Its 4-inch midrange/woofer speaker drivers create rich lows. Meanwhile, the treble units produce clear highs. A perfectly tuned bookshelf speaker to suit your needs. The Edifier R1700BT provides remarkable features with an excellent balance between design and performance. It delivers clean and distortion-free sound. On the other hand, the Edifier R1850DB will enable you to enjoy audio from any wireless or wired source. Although the bass is sufficient, there is an option to add a subwoofer. Sound quality My first impression was that I really liked the design, they fit in almost any environment, except perhaps really old school cottages. A strange comparison, but I have reviewed a pair of Edifiers in an old cottage before over at Fullsync. There is no real difference here in the quality, but both are rigid enough to prevent any unwanted resonance. The size of the speakers are fairly compact also. The remote control is fairly simple and sturdy with just a mute button and the volume control. The increased loudness capability gives a more usable headroom for larger spaces than the more compact R1700BT. Sound Quality Winner: Edifier R1850DB A versatile speaker is a great addition to your studio or home audio setup. The Edifier R1700BT and R1850DB provide outstanding sound quality and proficient noise correction. These are functional and productive studio monitors that you can use for your day-to-day tasks. The Edifier R1850DB delivers subtle but noticeable improvements over the R1700BT, mainly due to the extra power and the slightly larger size. I feel like I’m doing the R1700BT an injustice here because its an absolutely fantastic speaker, but the R1850DB is just that little bit better with the controls. Sturdy spring-loaded posts accept banana plugs for solid cable connections to help keep up the premium feel of the R1700BT. These are a set of speakers that I could and would use on a daily basis. If you’re in the market for something reasonably priced and of real high quality then I’d suggest you grab a pair for yourself.A familiar design meets new technology. Featuring Bluetooth 4, the R1850DB bookshelf speakers can be paired with any device. Simply sync your smartphone, tablet or computer and listen to your favourite music, videos or games. The latest Bluetooth 4 wireless technology is great for playing from multiple devices. Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-Field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers... To achieve this they often color the sound to place more emphasis on certain frequencies. This makes for a pleasing sound with warm bass and distinct highs. While great for general listening they do not perform well as dedicated studio monitors. While the R1700BT provides incredible value, the R1850DB’s extra connectivity, sleek design, and subtle but noticeable audio improvements are worth the very little extra. In addition, the frequency response range is impressive at 60Hz – 20kHz. This means that it can produce defined highs and rich low tones, enough to scale across all frequencies in the audible spectrum of human hearing.

There are plenty of alternatives available if you are looking for small monitors. Depending on your needs, some of these options may be a better choice. Edifier R1700BT Review These are not the cheapest set of Edifier speakers but they still offer an excellent price point. Good value for money when you factor in the range of features on offer here. Not a fantastic choice for mixing in the studio. But, they are very affordable compared to more professional-level studio monitors. For a 4″ driver, the R1700BT woofer can provide a respectable bass output for a bookshelf speaker, even if it only goes down to about 60Hz. He constantly researches and tests new products, and enjoys playing with all types of gear in his spare time. Electronic music runs through his veins and he absolutely loves DJing in his home studio. The fiber optic input cable measures 144 cm. A fantastic pair of bookshelf speakers. Full Specifications The speakers are pretty loud with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 85dbA, which is more than enough for most applications. For example, it can project the sound across the room when watching TV. Also, the distortion is minimal even at maximum volume, although I discourage you from running max capacity for long periods. The RMS is powered by 60W and allows the speaker to reach loud volumes around the 100dB mark before distortion becomes noticeable.
