About this deal

Surveillance Station includes 2 free licenses. Connecting more cameras and devices requires additional licenses. As the name suggests, this is a dual-bay server that can hold two internal disks -- 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch hard drives (HDDs) or 2.5-inch solid-state drives (SSDs) -- by itself and then can host a 5-bay DX517 extension unit. So it can handle up to 7 drives by design.

With the Synology DS723+’s NVMe drives and 10Gbe Ethernet capabilities, you can host more demanding applications directly on the NVMe drives. If you wer into image/video editing, I’d highly recommend using the NVMe storage volumes for this as you’ll see a significant improvement to your read/write performance compared to the standard drives. they dont need to increase the price to add 10Gbe network ports, they actually spend extra money so you DONT HAVE 10Gbe ports by default. Such absolutely pointless decisions on their part. Ah well. I should have held off longer and waited for a USB 4 storage option as this unit is a complete and utter disappointment!

Performance backed by Synology drives

Reduce transfer times with the DS723+, designed to accelerate your workloads. Easily add faster networking and NVMe drives to further boost performance. Overall, the software support in DSM on the DS723+ is going to be very good and the depth of the hardware available means that although it will be a pinch less suitable for highly graphical tasks, it DOES have alot more capability in file handling and transmission – which is precisely what Synology want for this device and makes it increasingly appealing to traditional storage users. Equally, the architecture of this CPU inside the DS723+ allows its resources to be spread a great deal further (threads and simultaneous tasks) towards using the full range of services that DSM includes. The cloud/hybrid services too will greatly benefit form this architecture too and once again mean that this Synology NAS will bring a tremendous sense/feeling of ‘local’ storage to this network/remote server. Finally, it is worth highlighting that the DS723+ and it’s R1600 CPU benefit form more PCI lanes at PCIe3 rather than the PCIe2 of it’s predecessor, with allows better bandwidth availability to the hardware resources onboard (such as those m.2 NVMe bays) The Synology DS723+ NAS – Release Date and Price? Powered by the versatile Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, the DS723+ offers comprehensive solutions to protect and manage business data, easily collaborate on documents, access files remotely, and monitor physical assets, all within a compact desktop format. Related The Synology DS723+ NAS Expandable 2-Bay Revealed UPDATE 11/01/23 –The Synology DS723+ NAS Drive has now been RELEASED! You can find our reveal and before you buy guide below: Please select Synology memory modules for optimum compatibility and reliability. Synology will not provide complete product warranty or technical support if non-Synology memory modules are used for memory expansion.

Moving on to the underside of the Synology DS723+ you’ll find 2 x M.2 NVMes SSD slots, again designed to have plenty of ventilation to keep the drives cool during operation. For the first time Synology have finally catered for the possibility to create storage pools via these SSD drives in addtion to simply cache storage with the only caveat that you need to use Synology NVMe drives ( SNV3410-400G and SNV3410-800G). If you use non Synology SSD drives, you can only use them as cache drives. You never mentioned power consumption (i dont think?). When compared to the ds720, which is best on purely power usage over a 24/7 period? I am looking at a 2 bay solely to run my ip cameras 24/7. My 1821 would do everything else. So I’m happy to get the 723 (as the newer unit) if power consumption between the two is negligible. You can also add 10GbE connectivity and M.2 NVMe SSD drives through the built-in PCIe slot to enable fast caching or create additional all-flash storage pools.

This device’s 1GbE LAN ports have a maximum transmission unit (MTU) size of 1,500 bytes. The USB 3.0 standard was renamed to USB 3.2 Gen 1 by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) in 2019. Thank you for the video. Every reviewer says that AMD is a step forward and everything flies. But frankly the celeron works much better with video encoding. I’d rather go with 1520 than 1522. 10Gbit is fine, but for home users 1Gbit is more than enough anyway. As for me 1522 is a downgrade. Amazing content, as always. As much as I love the possibility of free stuff, I’d prefer the video content. Be reasonable, attentive, and respectful! (No typo-laden, broken-thought, or cryptic comments, please!)

The same was observed playing 1080p files and there was no buffering experienced throughout. A slight spike is seen in CPU utilization initially which settles down soon after. Memory utilization continued to run unaffected. 4K to 1080p transcoding I just read that with DSM 7.1.1 the AAC audio codec will be REMOVED from the Advanced Media Extensions?! Are my videos with AAC audio now worthless, do I have to re-encode all of them? Hybrid cloud capabilities provided by Synology Hybrid Share allow users to merge the benefits of on-premises and cloud by storing cold data in the cloud while keeping frequently accessed files cached on the local device for access at LAN speeds. However when it comes to transcoding a 4K video to 1080p the Synology DS723+ was struggling to keep up and as seen in the metrics below CPU and Memory utilization was reaching its peak. The video was buffering and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. 1080p to 720p conversion faired better and while the CPU utilization peaked again, it hovered around 45% mark after approximately 40 seconds. Synology reserves the right to replace memory modules with the same or higher frequency based on supplier's product life cycle status. Rest assured that the compatibility and stability have been strictly verified with the same benchmark to ensure identical performance.PCIe add-in cards, expansion units, and storage drives are sold separately. Refer to the compatibility list for compatible devices. I so remember when Illmatic hit in the 90s. I was i college. Legend. What’s wrong with 99 Problems. Still a nasty beat and a great song. As for Jay v. Nas. I like em both but Ether was nasty. Bodied him on that one. Like the DS720+ and DS920+, there isn't much in the way of variance between the DS723+ and DS923+ — both models have the same hardware and feature-set, with the only difference between the drive bays and amount of memory: the DS923+ gets 4GB of memory, with the DS723+ offering 2GB. So if you need more memory and four drive bays, the DS923+ is the ideal choice. Synology today announced the official US availability of its model year 2023 dual-bay extension-ready NAS server, the DiskStation DS723+ -- that's DS723 Plus. Although 2x SATA drive 10G performance on the DS723+ and it’s CPU+Memory combo cannot be confirmed right now, I CAN answer the question of how the R1600 CPU and pro-class hard drives will perform over 10GbE in a four drive combo. Previously here on the NASCompares, I was fortunate enough to run ATTO tests on the DS1522+ (same R1600 CPU, but 8GB Memory and more bays) with RAID 0 and RAID 5, over four WD Red Pro 22TB Hard Drives. Now, it is worth remembering that these are NOT your common, everyday SATA hard drives and are designed to be rugged, high-performance disks (7200RPM, 512MB Cache, 10x 2.2TB platters, etc) AND the DS1522+ was populated with four drives (twice the maximum bays of the DS723+). That said, the results in both a RAID 0 and RAID 5 setup and in particular file size tests, full saturation of read transfers of 1.15GB/s was achieved, with write performance peaking at around 800-900MB/s. Now, these ARE artificial tests (so, not really representative of everyday use), but are nevertheless very compelling results for the CPU inside the DS723+ being able (with sufficient media) to sufficiently saturate the E10G22-T1-mini upgrade. More domestic/smaller scale HDDs such as the WD Red Plus or Seagate Ironwolf drives in a 2-Bay configuration of the DS723+ would likely cap at around 400-50MB/s at most.

My only hope is for the 223+ and 423+ to come with embedded graphics and NVMe support. No home user needs the extension bay that the 723 and 923 bring, so it would definitely make sense to separate the home and business product lines GARTNER MARKET GUIDE FOR NDR 2022 You probably know that we are big believers in Network Detection and Response (NDR).
