The six orchestral commissions, five choral commissions and one organ commission have been written by world-renowned British composers. A range of musical styles and performers blend tradition, heritage and ceremony with new musical voices of today, reflecting The King’s life-long love and support of music and the arts. A standout moment of the ceremony was the ‘Coronation Anthem’, a brand new commission written for the occasion by Lord Lloyd Webber, entitled ‘Make A Joyful Noise’. With its rousing opening and closing fanfare played by the Fanfare Trumpeters of the Royal Air Force and jubilant chorus sung by The Choir of Westminster Abbey, accompanied by the Coronation Orchestra, the words “Make A Joyful Noise unto the Lord, the King” (from Psalm 98) are entirely fitting. A pre-recorded studio version of this piece is also released today as a standalone single. It is the first time in history that such a recording has been produced, marking an unprecedented event in both recorded music and British royal history. She also worked on the wedding of the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in 2018.Fanfares were played by the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry and the Fanfare Trumpeters of the Royal Air Force, and the great abbey organ was played by sub-organist Peter Holder, and assistant organist, Matthew Jorysz. The day after the coronation ceremony, the royal family hosts a big concert event in the garden of Windsor Castle, featuring live music from pop stars like Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, both ambassadors for various of the king's foundations and charities. Some 20,000 guests have been invited. Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director for the Royal Opera House, will be conducting the Coronation Orchestra which comprises a bespoke collection of musicians drawn from orchestras of The former Prince of Wales’ Patronages including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Thousands of organisations across the country are encouraging the public to make a difference in their local communities, with plenty of opportunities to get involved. I am incredibly honoured to have been asked to compose a new anthem for The Coronation. My anthem includes words slightly adapted from Psalm 98. I have scored it for the Westminster Abbey choir and organ, the ceremonial brass and orchestra. I hope my anthem reflects this joyful occasion. Shirley J. Thompson (Composer) said:

Two pieces of organ music take us to the fanfare by The State Trumpeters of the Household Calvary before Charles Hubert Parry’s noble anthem, I Was Glad, composed for the Coronation of King Edward VII in 1902, and also heard at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The service then continues, from the Recognition through readings and prayers to the Crowning itself, all interspersed with choral works ancient and modern, many specially commissioned for the occasion. In his sermon at St Paul’s Cathedral on the occasion of the United Guilds’ Service of the City of London on March 24, the Dean of Westminster, Dr David Hoyle, gave the congregation an assurance that the forthcoming Coronation would witness a spectacle of colour unlike many of us had witnessed hitherto. Now, under the assured direction of Andrew Nethsingha, recently appointed Organist and Master of the Choiristers at Wesminster Abbey, and his host of performers, we have this magnificent aural document of a great historic occasion, a touchstone to the hardworking, dedicated professional musicians of this realm, who have given their all to this special event. The Westminster Abbey Choir was augmented by the girl choiristers from the Chapel Choir of the Methodist College, Belfast, and Truro Cathedral Choir, adding their voices to the soaring descants of traditional hymns and the eight newly composed anthems.
