I really enjoy thrillers that keep you guessing, that you can't put down and this book did not disappoint! I finished it within three evenings of reading! I just wanted to know what happened and wasn't going to stop reading until I found out... * Mojo Mums * I got an arc from a publisher for this one and I agreed to be honest in my review. Sorry, but if you say "honest", you are going to get it. Sarah Haywood is working hard to get a permanent position at Queen Anne University for two years. She gets top marks from her students, has a steady publication record, has helped launch a new program, and has even found leads for grant funding for their department. But all of her hard work won’t matter as long as Alan Hawthorne is in charge of the department. Given his TV fame, high grant funding, and social connections with the University bigwigs, no one goes anywhere without Alan’s approval. It was also very interesting to put Sarahs choice (s) as a question to yourself, the reader and decide what you would do given the choice (s) she found herself having to make, its great to read her absolute disbelief how her life had changed in an hour! Sarah never thinks she will call him on this promise, but she is dealing with her husband leaving her and their two children, for life with another woman. As if that is not enough, Sarah is dealing with sexual harassment at work. Her boss is holding her job and job advancement in his hands, making sexual overtures and advances, letting her know the only way to keep her job is to sleep with him.

With a clever, original story line and colourful characters, some you root for instantly and others that make your blood boil and skin crawl, this will have you captivated from beginning to end! Given the subject matter this is an uncomfortable book to read at times. Sarah was also a frustrating character as it could be difficult to always understand her motivations for doing things. That's the same issue I ran into when reading the author's other book, Lies. Like I mentioned before though, the third part of the book is where everything comes together and makes more sense. I probably would have only rated this book at 3 stars had the author not pulled together a pretty good ending. It will blow your mind. I am utterly in awe. It lived up to all the hype for me. This has everything that I love in a thriller. I loved everything about this book. It definitely will be one of my favorites for this year. I was immediately drawn into this story. I could not put this down. Sarah is a college professor with a powerful, ruthless, out of control sex fiend of a boss but her husband has left her and she is supporting herself and her two children and can't leave her job to find another job that would pay much less. Sarah thinks she can just tough things out, ignore veiled threats and obvious advances, and move up the ladder but her boss makes it clear to her that's not the case. I went in to this one a little dubious about its premise, and yes, it's wild and crazy and implausible, but it's also one of those fun, addictive reads that you get caught up in and can't put down for hours. It was a whirlwind read, and I totally loved it. The book's story is very timely--Sarah's boss, Dr. Hawthorne is a terrible, despicable character: a poster child for the #metoo movement. Her success and livelihood are tied into sleeping with him. He sexually harasses her, threatens her, and basically does everything awful thing he could do. Your blood will boil when you read this story, and it was honestly stressful at times. Yet the man is untouchable thanks to protective male colleagues and the money he brings in. When Sarah rescues a young girl in trouble, she expects nothing in return. But her act of bravery puts a powerful and dangerous man in her debt. He lives by his own brutal code, and all debts must be repaid – in the only way he knows how.Due to a random incident, Sarah is given a chance to make a difference in her life, to get out from under this tyrant but it goes against everything that is right. Still, she considers whether she would allow something very bad to happen if there was no chance for that thing to ever be connected to her and if that thing would allow her to have a safe, unmolested life. Sarah is trapped and feels like she has nowhere to turn but can she accept what is being offered to her, with just a few simple restrictions? Sarah's situation is certainly thought provoking and had me pondering - if I were approached with the same proposition, who would that someone be that I'd like to have magically disappear. Everyone has that someone right? The rules were quite simple. Don't be alone with him if you could possibly avoid it. Don't say anything which he might take as encouragement. Don't get into a taxi or a lift with him. Be extra careful with him when you are away from the office, particularly, at hotels and conferences. And most of all, the number one rule that must never, ever, be broken: don t do any of the above when he had been drinking. He was bad when He was sober, but he was worse-much worse-when he was drunk.
