About this deal

If you look at other vendors, you can get more ports, faster ports, more PoE, less PoE, or more licensing fees. You won’t find the unique combination of features UniFi and Professional 8 PoE offer though. PoE injectors are a simple solution for a single Access Point. They are pretty cheap and a good option if you plan to deploy just one or maybe two Access Points.

And you want line speed to your wired devices and as much as you can get on your wireless devices and you like Unifi’s marketing? We've written this guide to help people who want to set uptheir own Ubiquiti Unifi WiFi network, but aren't sure which Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches are compatible with which Ubiquiti Unifi Access Points. I’m running one cable over the roof (into centre of house) so need a 10 gig hub I can plug my pc into too. Then one for the WiFi point. Then you want a UniFi Dream Machine (UDM) SE and that will take your 2.5GbE input into its 2.5GbE RJ45 or 10GbE SFP+ WAN port (you may need an RJ45 to SFP+ adapter depending on how your ONT is terminated).

PoE switches, by their very nature, generate a lot of heat. This is because they are constantly providing power to devices over Ethernet cables. While some PoE switches use fans to keep themselves cool, the Ubiquiti models mentioned do not. That would give you 2.5GbE wired connections on up to 7 devices, a full 10GbE for 1 wired device and potentially over 2Gbps on a good quality WiFi6E client. The great thing about PoE devices is that they can be powered by either PoE or a PoE+ switch. A PoE+ switch will step down the power to allow for PoE devices.

PoE is actually relatively simple, but the terminology can be confusing. This is because differently named termsare used for the same thing. Hopefully, by the time you'veour guide, it will all become clear. PoE is the main type of Power over Ethernet (PoE) used by devices such as CCTV cameras, VoIP phones, and Smart Home equipment. It can provide up to 15.4 watts of power per port. PoE was the dominant PoE type used by Unifi Access Points, but the latest generation are now predominantly PoE+. I've had an Enterprise 8 PoE for a while, and it does get warm in normal use. The fan whirs up when the switch is booting up, but is mostly silent during normal operation. I would expect the Pro 8 PoE to be similar, even with minor differences in port speed and the addition of some metal to the enclosure. Lite 8 PoE and Lite 16 PoE This is a simple comparison. The two 60W 802.3bt PoE++ ports become 30W 802.3at PoE+, but all eight Ethernet ports move from 1 Gbps to 2.5 Gbps. The Pro 8 PoE mentions metal as part of its enclosure, the Enterprise 8 PoE does not. The Enterprise 8 PoE is slightly heavier and hotter, but they are mostly the same otherwise. Just so I understand the adapter allows me use the 10 gp port on the udm se to make a 10 gig connection to the flex which I can then use for wired 10 gig. When choosing a switch for your Ubiquiti Unifi Access Points, you may not need to use a Ubiquiti Unifi switch. For most home networking deployments, a Unifi switch is significantly over-specced, as 99% of the features are never used. In our opinion, it would be better to spend your money on additional access points or a good router. There are a lot of Instant On switch options, but no high-end desktop model quite like the Pro 8 PoE. See my other posts on Aruba Instant On for more details. MikroTik There are a number of different PoE switches available on the market, so it is important to choose one that is right for your needs. Some factors to consider include the number of ports you need, the amount of PoE power you need, and your budget.
