About this deal

Though it’s a straighter blade than many other karambits on the market, I’ve found that the thin profile of the Gambit makes it easy to conceal. SOG Gambit

When Smith & Wesson’s steel smiths aren’t busy making guns, they occupy themselves by forging the things you shouldn’t bring to a gun fight. The brand’s knives have earned a reputation for serviceability, and they rely on their branding and modest pricing for popularity. There is quite a lot that goes into learning and using a karambit knife properly and safely, but once you take the time to learn the basics, the possibilities are nearly endless. From using your karambit for self-defense to show off your skills to your friends, learning to use a karambit is a very rewarding endeavor. There are a bunch of karambit striking techniques, and they all have their uses. The below striking techniques are commonly used in combat or self-defense situations, but you can also use your karambit to do more mundane and utilitarian tasks.

If you’re holding your karambit in a proper reverse grip, the blade should be pointing downwards with the blade edge facing out. Your hand should be tightly gripping the handle with your thumb pressed against the butt of the handle and your index finger through the ring (if your karambit has one). Actually then, it could be a cool crossover for anyone who wants the self defense capability of a karambit but the straightforward utility of a more typical blade. The clip point could work for hunting, fishing, camping, or any general EDC purpose. But the ring still facilitates secure transitions between grips. Also known as the standard grip, the forward karambit knife grip is one of the most practical and is the one you’ll likely use the most often. It’s far from complicated and should be pretty straightforward to learn and practice. Below I’ll give you step-by-step instructions on how to form the forward karambit knife grip:

Finally, the blade bent easily under my normal flex testing. In fighting, I figure you’d rather have that than breakage. But if you used the Gambit as an EDC knife, the easy bending might give the impression of cheapness. Each element of using a karambit knife builds upon the last, so make sure to take the time and get each aspect right before continuing. How to Properly Hold a Karambit Knife Many people get into karambit knives for the sole reason of wanting to learn spinning transitions. Spinning transitions are very flashy and pleasing to the eye, but they also serve a purpose.

In day-to-day use, the safety ring also helps to make it so that the blade can be used successfully while cutting objects at awkward angles with little fear of cutting oneself. Ability to Change Fighting Range Without Movement Self-Defense: That brings us into self-defense. The tactical aptitude behind the karambit design boils down to the same thing that makes a tiger's claw an effective tool. It's sharp, and its shape facilitates both cutting and ripping. Yikes. This prevalence of the karambit in battle soon caused other martial arts – including eskrima and kuntao— to incorporate it into their fighting styles as well. Advantages to the Karambit in Self-Defense Cut three 1/4" pins from a preferably nonferrous metal of your choice (I used brass). They should be long enough to go through both scales and the blade and a have a little extra length on top of that. Push the pins through the blade and one of the scales. Trace the outline of the blade onto the scale and cut along that line with a cutout saw. Then use a belt sander and sand right up to the line. Then push the pins through both scales (without the blade in between them) and sand the other scale so it is symmetrical to the first. Put all the pins and scales on the blade to test its fit. If it is good, you're ready to glue. Going from a reverse grip to an extended grip, or vice versa, is a very common grip transition that you can begin to practice even if you’re a complete beginner. Just make sure to take it slow and practice first with a karambit trainer knife if at all possible. Switching Hand Transitions

A: Tactical. When else would you want a blade with a cutting surface that curves away from whatever you're cutting? The karambit's barbed blade induces a ripping cut, and the curved shape utilizes body movement physics to increase striking power. Q: What is an Emerson wave feature? Once it was discovered that the karambit made a formidable weapon, this curved blade soon began to be carried into battle as well.Masalong’s Outdoor Survival Tactical Karambit knife leads with value and variety. The basic knife comes in multiple variants, from the entry-level version with the kydex sheath to the Damascus-patterned range-topper. The 7″ knife’s 3.1″ blade complies with many states’ concealed carry regulations. The blade, made with workmanlike D2, has a serrated edge on the spine. That’s an interesting choice — while any serrated blade offers function when dull, this one arguably presents a user safety hazard. Some karambit self-defense techniques involve series of flips and spins, using the ring. A double-edged blade could bite. Quality is assured and maintained up-to a certain level meeting all the current criteria of market. Aside from its self-defense value, this knife is still incredibly practical. I speak from experience when I say it’s the perfect design for harvesting asparagus and lettuce! Pretty handy No-Slip Grip: First and foremost, a karambit knife is a weapon. That means a slippery handle is a no-no. Most karambits get textured handles at the bare minimum; some, like Schrade's, even have grips that resist moisture.

Tradition has it that the karambit was designed after a tiger’s claw. When used in combat, this metal “claw” proved as aggressive as its namesake. You should be holding your karambit knife tightly with the blade facing downwards and your thumb up against the knife’s spine (which is facing upwards) to hold it steady. Plastic and wood variants if you want can be fine to make sparring, because they are light and without edges, but I always recommend for sparring to use aluminum knives and fencing-like protections to protect the head and hands. However, most of the other karambit knife grips are incredibly impractical or downright dangerous. The three grips mentioned above are the only ones a complete beginner should worry about, and they’ll work wonderfully for 99% of the tasks you need to complete with a karambit knife. As you become more comfortable with your karambit, you can begin to explore the other grip options, such as the mantis grip, and find out what you prefer. It has poor concealment due to the curvature of the blade and for this there are several variants or use female karambit.
