I would very much recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a Regency novel, especially ones that have a touch of mystery. Next I will be reading Noël Cades' other regency romance . Fingers crossed that it also has a bonus mystery plotline! You may believe that all novels which revolve around the idea of arranged marriages with substitute wives are a copy-paste of the original story, but the truth is that each and every one of these narratives has its own spice and charm. Janet Dean grew up in a family who cherished the past and had a strong creative streak. Her father recounted fascinating stories, like his father before him. The wedding was conducted as scheduled. White wedding dress, red carpet, flowers, and guests... The wedding was as grand as the one people saw on big screens. But Autumn's heart was as cold as ice. It's a well written book with lots of emotions. It does capture the slow and sturdy growth of the affection between the couple ,apart from the initial lust.

Autumn wondered.It’s not the worst book I’ve read but I didn’t really enjoy it. I am sorry to be critical - but this is sadly no Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen or even a Tessa Dare!! I found the language stiff and stilted, and the story trite and stereotypical. I was really quite bored. A light read with good pacing and excellent characterization. Definitely atmospheric, everything is wonderfully described and didn't disappoint that slowly takes a turn into fake engagement territory. Wendy turned to the salesperson waiting outside the room and yelled, "Don't just keep standing there. The wedding dress is ripped. Get her a new one! Our Yvonne is not any ordinary person. She deserves the best wedding dress." Both the lead Characters were every well portrayed and loved! I admire the way Noel brought in 'feminism' and showed that even men in that ere where capable of regarding woman as equal and not be judged harshly simply because of their gender.

It's the getting to the happy ending that is the interesting and surprisingly curious trip to that happy ending which made the story nice to read on a hot afternoon in the dog days of summer.
