The story actually starts out pretty sad. I thought it was a bit heavy for a kids book. The little boy's dog he loved so much dies and he gets sad and depressed. The Snowman flies again in this follow-up to the much-loved Christmas classic - now celebrating its 10th anniversary! When Billy and his mother move to a new house and Billy's dog dies and winter comes, Billy is lonely and writes to Santa for a new dog. He trips over a loose floorboard and discovers the accessories of a snowman. He builds a snowman and snowdog and magic happens as they fly to the North Pole and Santa gives Billy a dog collar which magically turns snowdog into a real dog. Alas the next day the dog is still here but the snowman has melted.
