About this deal

After reading the letter, Lizzy discovers someone is threatening her. But who would want to do that? She seems to get along with everyone and has never made an enemy in her life. Who would want to scare her like this? The only person Lizzy can think of is her sister Emma. They were very close growing up but have had a falling out a few years ago, and haven't talked at all since. But surely her sister wouldn't go to this length to threaten, scare and taunt her? Surely her sister wouldn't do that! This one took a while to grab my attention. It’s initially a slow burn. This is a steady, not a fast paced book. Chamberlain throws out hints on a regular basis. Chapters are alternated between past and present. And yes, I could see things coming from miles away but that didn’t really dampen my appreciation for how it plays out. The characters develop well over time. What were the parents thinking to deny or hide so much? You really feel for Riley’s brother, Danny. I could have carried on with my pathetic life as though nothing had changed. But that wouldn't have been right. Because everything has changed.

The Silent Sister by Diane Chamberlain - Pan Macmillan

She is also the author of two bestselling Young Adult series as well as a children's WWII novel with a time-travel twist. The first thing I had to do was stop at this post office, ten miles outside of New Bern. I'd get that out of the way and cross one thing off my list. Digging the flimsy white postcard from my purse, I went inside the building. I was the only customer, and my tennis shoes squeaked on the floor as I walked up to the counter where a clerk waited for me. With her dark skin and perfect cornrows, she reminded me of my friend Sherise, so I liked her instantly. Now to complicate things further Lizzie and her sister have been estrange from one another for many years... but could your sister the girl you played dolls with as a kid do this to you? The relationship between Lizzie and Emma was an interesting one and I liked how it was revealed to us throughout this book.... The stalker’s actions in this book escalated throughout the book and got scarier and Boulder as time went on... as much as I liked Lizzie and really felt for her she really didn’t always think things through.... she really did some pretty stupid things...things I would hope I would never do if someone were hunting me! But fortunately I have never been in this situation... Not knowing who to trust and beginning to suspect everyone around her Lizzy turns to the police but they are not help as the incidents keep piling up. The threats seem to be pointing Lizzy to her sister, Emma, but the two haven't spoken in years but would her sister really have it out for her? All right." I was glad she'd made the decision for me. I smiled. "I hope Fred Marcus doesn't mind, whoever he is." I turned toward the door. The only negative in my opinion was the relatively abrupt ending. I wanted to know much more about the lives of Riley and Jade subsequent to the last chapter than the epilogue provided. This dropped my score from 5.0 to 4.5, but the book is closer to 5.0 than 4.0; thus, a 5 star rating from me. After her father’s sudden death, a daughter discovers disturbing facts about a sister presumed dead more than two decades earlier. You don't deserve a sister" are the words written on the Lizzy had discovered. It had been hand delivered, but who had sent it? Lizzy has not spoken to her sister, Emma, in years. An argument had torn the sisters apart. Lizzy gets more letters and she starts to doubt the people she is closest too, her boyfriend,Joe, her best friend, and her neighbours. Lizzy is the manager of a shop and has been in a relationship for five years. Lizzy was living a happy life with her boyfriend Joe till she starts receiving threatening notes from her stalker.Informing the cops too does not help much and when the threat escalates she starts suspecting everyone around her even her estranged sister. The book does end with an EPILOGUE, written for readers who NEED the twist that they will not see coming. (Some readers have loved it!)

Diane Chamberlain has written many terrific novels and she hits a home run with The Silent Sister! Highly recommend! I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review. Diane was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey and lived for many years in both San Diego and northern Virginia. She received her master’s degree in clinical social work from San Diego State University. Prior to her writing career, she was a hospital social worker in both San Diego and Washington, D.C, and a psychotherapist in private practice in Alexandria, Virginia, working primarily with adolescents.

of the books I read are strictly romance but sometimes I need a mystery/thriller/suspense to spice things up a bit and The Silent Sister seemed like a good choice. Overall, I was left somewhat underwhelmed, but I had a blast unraveling this intricately-woven mystery! This is one of those stories that apart from Lizzy, I didn't trust anyone. I was desperately trying to work out who could be behind the letters and I was so certain I had it sussed, only to realise I'd been wrong all along. I was totally immersed in the story, and am glad I took a time out from my review schedule to fit this one in. On the other hand, this was an easy read and I loved the epilogue, which added a nice twist. I wasn’t sure who was stalking Lizzy and didn’t figure out who the culprit was until I was about 80% in; I missed some pretty obvious signs. Lizzy is the sole POV for the majority of the book, and it was nice to read something that did not have multiple POVs. But there was way too much telling vs seeing and this aspect took me out of the story. I turned onto Craven Street and pulled into our driveway. Daddy’s car was in the garage. I could see its roof through the glass windows—one of them broken—of the garage door. I hadn’t thought about his car. Was it better to sell it or donate it? I had an appointment with his attorney in the morning and I’d add that question to my ever-growing list. The car should really go to my brother, Danny, to replace his ancient junker, but I had the feeling he’d turn it down.
