About this deal

This novel consists of a prologue and 54 chapters. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case! This is the best psychological thriller I have read so far… A fantastic read and is recommended to all those who enjoy mystery and psychological thrillers.’ Once Upon A Read, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Last Holiday : A completely unputdownable psychological

Like the drug issue, his estranged relationships with his three children is given the silent treatment, and this would have been fine with me (family is private, and none of my damn business) except Scott-Heron attempts to put a positive spin on his refusal to recognize his son by spinning a very unlikely story that it was all just a misunderstanding. If you don't want to talk about it, Gil, that's fine, but don't ask me to believe the story you tell putting the blame on the mother.Murphy, Robert (2003). ..Realism and Tinsel: Cinema and Society in Britain 1939–48, Routledge. ISBN 978-1134901500 p. 188 Even knowing what a powerful wordsmith Scott-Heron was, it was a pleasant surprise and a bit of a relief to discover how readable this memoir is, given the years Scott-Heron spent facing the challenges of drugs, a stroke, and HIV. Yes, much of it was written during his more lucid years, and yes, Tim Mohr and Jamie Byng played a big role in giving the book a coherent flow. Still, many of the book's strengths belong to Gil and Gil alone.

If you don't know who Gil Scott-Heron was, I recommend the following: Go to a party, get drunk, have fun. Then, when you come home, it's 4 am or 5 am, have your post-party melancholy - open the beer you stole when you left, realise that it's already Sunday and you have to go to work or uni again soon, realise that you're alone and lonely, realise that you've grown apart from your family, realise that perhaps you were never that close in the first place, realise that you're incapable of closeness and warmth, realise that you'll die alone. Then put on Scott-Heron's last album, I'm New Here, because it will help. A group of college friends along with their partners and children go on a weeks camping holiday to Cornwall. It’s been a long time since they all had a holiday together and they are getting together to celebrate the 18th Birthday of the daughter of one of the friends. The camping holiday brings out dark secrets from the past, everyone seems to be hiding something. On this their last holiday together, one of them won’t return.I like the concept and I didn't expect the big reveal, but it felt unrealistic. Also, it wasn't as enthralling or thrilling as I had hoped. I was excited when I read that his memoir about touring with Stevie Wonder was released, but I wasn't sure what reading it would be like How far will we go to keep our secrets hidden? And when does being close to someone start becoming dangerous…? Several college friends gather together on a camping trip for the eighteenth birthday celebration of Rose. Although all of them were friends at one time, their relationships are quite strained. In fact, their friendships are questionable. Secrets and lies are stronger bonds than that of friendship.

Her Last Holiday: the next addictive crime thriller from the

The five of us have been friends since we were children. We think we know every scar, every secret, every story. But by the third night one of us will be dead. People cheating, people filing bankruptcy, people threatening others…lots going on. One morning, one of their own turns up dead. No one is sure who did it. This is a wildly uneven book, assembled from scraps of writing from different periods of his life and from different points of view. The editor has a weird little section at the end saying basically, "Hey, we did what we can." Quite naturally, the list of suspects involves the group of friends. With various points of view in this intriguing novel by Amy Sheppard, it proved to be quite interesting to see who the killer was, and what the actual motive was. This book was delightfully good. The ending had so many twists… I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It was a good one!’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This book is about a group of friends who are camping together with their family. Each of them has secrets and no one really wanted to go on the trip. I liked that the book was from different perspectives. It made it more interesting. I was curious about what really happend. There is a big twist at the end. Some of it I had guessed but not all. I didn;t like the ending. Overall a good book though. What I didn't appreciate is that it was indirectly an essay on the crisis of mid-life. Your youth is in theory supposed to give you all the tools and ammunition to take on the battle of adult life. As it turns out adult life - mid-life is hard. Health, career, failed ambitions, betrayal, finding joy in small spaces, parents aging process, money, death. It's hard. He writes so beautifully on all these things. This is a well written book with many twists and turns. Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read/listen to the audiobook. As the story unfolds so does a tangled web of deciet, insecurities and the ultimate betrayal - you can decide which is which if/when you read it as there is more than one The writing style is interesting and the different characters were also very interesting. The plot is surprising, so I definitely enjoyed this story!
