About this deal

READ BY JIM BROADBENT! Henry loves books… but not like you and I. He loves to EAT books! This exciting new story follows the trials and tribulations of a boy with a voracious appetite for books. Your children are such great artists! I love their work. An illustrator I would like to recommend is Jeannie Baker. Her latest book, Mirror, is a true masterpiece in my opinion. I think the kids will love to examine her techniques and try for themselves. Also, take a look at Ellie Sandall's Birdsong (UK writer/illustrator.) One day Henry decides to actually try reading one of his half-eaten books and a whole new world opens up before him. He realises that reading books can still make him the smartest person on earth, but just not quite as speedily as his previous method! Sumptuously produced, with quirky, collage style illustrations, this homage to books will find fans in children and adults alike.

In 2007, Jeffers was the official illustrator for World Book Day, and in 2008 Lost and Found became Oliver's first book to made into animation by London-based Studio AKA. Oh wow! Such great little artists! My kids still just scribble on everything and eat the crayons (They are 1 and 2 yrs old) but I hope someday to get to this point. STORY READ BY JIM BROADBENT! Henry loves books! but not like you and I. He loves to EAT books! This exciting new story follows the trials and tribulations of a boy with a voracious appetite for books. Henry discovers his unusual taste by mistake one day, and is soon swept up in his new-found passion -- gorging on every delicious book in sight! And better still, he realises that the more books he eats, the smarter he gets. Henry dreams of becoming the Incredible Book Eating Boy; the smartest boy in the world! But a book-eating diet isn't the healthiest of habits, as Henry soon finds out!Oliver Jeffers' work takes many forms. His distinctive paintings have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, and HarperCollins UK and Penguin USA publish his award-winning picture books, now translated into over 30 languages. Once there was a sad, lonely penguin who appeared at the door of a young boy. The boy decided he must be lost, so he set off to find his home. This half term, our class are appreciating the work of various children's picture book illustrators and attempting to recreate their techniques. Here is our first project, focusing on the work of Oliver Jeffers in The Incredible Book Eating Boy masterpiece!

What a great art project! I bet the kids loved creating these. I like to do children's book inspired projects too. Most recently we used the book "Armadillo Ray". It has wonderful, vibrant oil pastel illustrations. Can't wait to see more of your "book eating children" collages! I read a review by a friend and said I got to read that. Got a library copy and read it to myself. Read it to my four-year old grandson, who though he can't read yet, loved it. My eight-year old grandson laughed out loud at it. Henry loves books. However, his pleasure isn't derived from reading them but from eating them instead. He gulps down all kinds of books, from storybooks to dictionaries and discovers that the more he eats, the smarter he gets. This story is about Henry who really, really, really enjoys ALL sorts of books...But...he enjoys the books a little different from you and I. In fact he EATS any sort of book he can find, especially the red ones! This allows his brain to do the most interesting thing, it internalises all the info out of each book until...Praise for 'How to Catch a Star': 'The best recent picture book by light years, is stylishly spellbinding. This book was one of our first choices because Oliver grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and I think that it's so important for the children to identify with local success stories. Also, Oliver uses mixed media in his illustrations and this is an area that we really needed to develop. Once there was a boy and the boy loved stars very much. So much, in fact, that he decides he must have one of his own and sets out to catch one... Shortlisted for the 2004 Booktrust Early Years Award, this is a delightful picture book about the power of the imagination and the need for friendship, charmingly illustrated with Oliver Jeffers's quirky watercolo… Oh, I just loved this, and its outlandish humor will, I think, appeal to most kids. I can see reading it with kids in all sorts of settings, and independent readers should enjoy perhaps it even more. Oliver Jeffers has won numerous awards and delighted millions of kids and parents alike with his beautifully hand illustrated stories.

Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments I loved this book, I loved the funny storyline and I really LOVED the illustrations! I think Oliver Jeffers is fast becoming one of my favourite writers for children storybooks.

Oh Wow!!! We have done some oliver jeffers inspired crafts, but yours is BRILLIANT!! It came out like a proper piece of art. I love love love!!! Clever you and clever kids! I suppose this isn’t a totally original idea. I’ve seen this premise played out before in other picture books, but the story here is so endearing. I like that Henry wants to be smart, and that Henry likes books, and that he figures out another way to use them.
