The key is E major, very remote from the flat-side keys that have dominated the work so far. Various commentators suggest that this was meant by Haydn to convey the remoteness of Earth from Heaven, or to contrast the sinfulness of people with the perfection of angels.

On the third day, the earth as we know it began to take shape. God created the dry land, and gathered all of the waters together as the seas. This was a busy day for God, as he also created all of the plants and trees on the earth, which he caused to bear a range of different fruits. This means that flowers, rivers, beaches, vegetables, and much more were all created on the third day. Dalton then left the band.
