About this deal

Thanks for the review! It's always nice to see different perspectives on these. I didn't realize the bass was too warm. But then again this is coming from the ath m50 which is legendary for having a midbass hump. The thing I noticed though is that these extend extremely well. it's very nice amount of bass for my tastes(electronic, drum and bass). I've never once heard it drown out details although sometimes maybe it does take charge like "hey! notice me" It usually has to do with the tonal balance of a headphone. For example a headphone with higher energy in the upper midrange and treble will generally be colder sounding. The HD681 EVO output what the music gives it to work with. The soundstage is neither expansive nor cramped. The sound is presented as if it’s coming from a mid-sized indoor concert with speakers surrounding me, intimate but never congested. The impressive thing about the soundstage is the accuracy in which the music is delivered and the sense of space the instruments have. The sound is all around my head, very 3d like in how it’s being presented to me.

Regarding 668B they're plenty loud even from portable devices or a laptop. They're about the same as the 681s. AKG K240 s are very comfortable, maybe even the most comfortable headphones below €100, so are HD 681s the same? Not really, but the difference isn’t massive. The main distinction lies with the earpads that may look nearly identical, but are less plush on HD 681 and if your ears are prone to sweating when using headphones, things can get sweaty pretty fast. Also the headband is a bit stiffer, but it’s not that big of a deal. Most of our testers still found them to be comfy enough. Another option would be the new 681 EVO, which come with 2 sets of pads, pleather and velour. In that sense they offer perhaps the best value of all Superluxes. Some time ago I tried foobar just to see what was it about but it didnt work much for me, it has somehow clustered UI, but maybe I will try it again. Or just use the winamps EQ.Well, actually, after a bit more hours, i just realised, the mid part is just, well, "audiable". is just a bit more than enough but not in a way of satisfying mids. These headphones are an affordable option which deliver good sound and are comfortable to wear. I found the basic response to favour higher frequencies, but with some EQ tweaking a balanced sound is easily attainable. In noisy surroundings these headphones do not provide adequate isolation, so they would be more suited to applications in quiet environments.

In some cases it can sound very dynamic and airy, which for a well recorded baroque album, for example, might actually do better than the other 2.

I bought this item because it looked comfortable, for long recording sessions. I now have 2 pairs, and bought another for a friend. The headphones are very comfortable, but was surprised that the claimed frequency response appears to be or could well be a fact. First Impression (well, i use Galaxy SIII camera, set ISO-800 just for less blurry. so, lots of noises) The best way to EQ headphones (that I know of) is by using Foobar and VST plugins. There are some dedicated threads about this in the Computer Audio section. After EQ-ing the 4-5k region the sound is much more coherent and enjoyable, but then the treble around 8-10k or maybe even higher becomes another issue one which I have yet to EQ properly. It makes the sound of cymbals and S sounds quite piercing and harsh on music that is not very well recorded and generally pushes cymbals too forward. Unless the context requires otherwise, the following words and phrases in these Terms and Conditions shall have the following meanings:

Very happy with these headphones,,..I just needed a cheap pair to sound good enuf until I got a better pair in a couple of weeks time..These did the job..For the price I don't think u could buy better headphones,,making me wonder how much better a more costly pair of Superlux will sound...I've got my good ones now and these 681,s are my spares that I use on my Amplugs.. You will get a phenomenal headphone for very few Dollars / Euros / Pounds / Yen / Yuan / Bitcoins / Ounces of Gold / You Name It.The response equalization of the Superlux HD681 was impeccable with perfect fine tuning of their mids, empowering of their bass and either taming of their highs peaks or sparkling even more their brightness and detail. For this kind of money, the HD681 evo is an absolute bargain if you like a bass led sound with good clarity and reasonable sensitivity for portables. It works exceedingly well with an amp and the bass is perhaps a tad more controlled.
