Dip the end of the cuttings in the gel and then insert into a suitable free-draining compost or rooting medium Both soft-tip and semi-hardwood cuttings require to be cultivated in humid conditions. Using a propagator is the ideal tool to maintain a warm and heated environment easily. First, crush an aspirin tablet with a pill crusher. Make sure to crush it with enough pressure so that it breaks down into powder. You can also smash the tablet with a hammer and then mix it into the water. Next, dip the cuttings into the aspirin mixture to accelerate the rooting process. Make sure to submerge the cuttings in the aspirin solution for two to three hours before transferring to the next step.The only downside is that powdered rooting hormones require a bit of extra time during propagation as we will need to separate some to prevent contamination then dip your cutting in water before sealing the cutting with the powder. This product is free of alcohol, dye and preservatives. Especially important when plants are for consumption. It comes in a gel that stays firm in the plug, replacing the need for hormone rooting powder and it is placed directly into the central cavity of the plug. The gel forms a seal around the cut surface of the cutting, aiding uptake and helping to prevent dehydration as well as infection. This gel contains no hormones and relies on a physical mode of action to work. It is not recommended to use rooting powder in water when propagating plants because it is going to be diluted and won’t have any effect.
