About this deal

To answer your question - has she read "Varjak Paw and The Outlaw Varjak Paw yet? They might sound very different to Phoenix - cats and dogs, rather than humans and aliens - but they come from the same place!

Phoenix - Penguin Books UK

All in all, your books have been a huge inspiration to me (even leading to me doing a small amount of my own story writing when I have the time). I guess there isn't really anything else I can say, other than thank you so much andThank you so much for that wonderful comment - it really means a lot to me. And you read Phoenix in one day?! That's amazing - I think it must be a record! You may not like it at all, of course! It's probably dated quite badly - it was written in 1960. But it started a wave of really interesting books with a mythical/magical/otherworldly element - not just his own, but also books by writers like Susan Cooper (The Dark Is Rising sequence) and Ursula Le Guin (The Earthsea books) - who I think you might also enjoy... they were certainly big influences on me!

Thank you so much! There are definitely more books on the way. At the moment, I'm working on a new trilogy called TYGER - if you want to know more, have a look at this blog post! Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't read any Alan Garner… do you have any specific books you would recommend? I am on my fourth draft for The Realm. I am thinking of adding Aliens living in the centre of the Earth? How many drafts do you think a story needs? Are you going to be writing any new books? Please say yes!

I hope you enjoy Varjak Paw too. And please give my best to Lexi and everyone at Whitworth – it was a real pleasure visiting your school and meeting you all! I absolutely adore this fascinating novel because it is filled with both excitement and adventure all in one book. I’m not particularly interested in space and astronomy and generally non-fiction subjects. However, this book intrigued me to start reading about the atmosphere and solar system. My favourite character from this imaginative tale is the warrior girl Bixa: she is a wonderful reliable friend, always there to help, even though she IS bossy at times! To answer your questions, I wrote a little bit about where I get my ideas from, and how I write my books, in this blog post - I hope you'll find it interesting and helpful! I ADORE you're books especially PHOENIX, TYGER sounds great and believe me, I'm gonna get it as soon as it comes out !!! I think PHOENIX is your best book because it makes you feel sad, happy, doubtful and loads more emotions and I believe a book should make you feel that way!

SF SAID: Phoenix - Varjak Paw

Your book was brilliant! It was one of the books recommended by our English teacher. My brother read Phoenix and said it was a gripping novel. He and my father enjoyed the book trailer as well. As for drafts - every writer is different. Some need more than others. But all of us do more than one. All you can do is keep working on it until it's the very best you can possibly make it; until it's exactly what you would most want to read yourself. And I think it will be worth it, because you have some brilliant ideas. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - First of all, thank you so much for leaving me that amazing comment. Phoenix took me seven years to write, but all the hard work feels worthwhile when I hear a response like that. So thank you - you've made my day!I believe that all of your books are amazing and phoenix is my all time favourite I loved the dramatic death of his mother because just thinking about it sent a chill down my spine what's your next book called. I believe that your that best author of all time keep doing what you do :) Phoenix is an amazing book. It really grabbed my attention. If adventure is what you want, this is the book for you! It's gripping and I could not put it down. It was absolutely irresistible."

I don't think I will write another Phoenix book, because I feel I've gone as far as I can with those characters and worlds. But I am planning to write another Varjak Paw book one day - you can read a bit about my idea for it here:written in, to all the librarians who created that space – and to whoever noticed Phoenix, and nominated it for these awards. It means more to me I still can't say too much about it, but let's just say that the main characters are a boy, a girl, and a TYGER! However, if he would still like to read another ending, or a sequel - I would be totally honoured if he wanted to write such a story himself! He doesn't need a competition to do it; he can just do it. And if he would like any writing tips to help him on his way, here's something he might find interesting - a blog I made about the writing process, containing an early draft of the opening of Phoenix: People often ask me for writing advice. So I'm doing a series of posts here, where I'll be giving my own tips, and collecting some favourites that have inspired me.
