About this deal

Stylish and Hip –One of the reasons I wanted to try out this poncho was simply because it looks cool. It has a stylish look, and you’re guaranteed to get compliments while wearing it. Too many other ponchos and rain capes make you look like you’re wearing a trash bag. I won’t lie, I now get a little excited for rain so that I can wear this poncho while riding. Made from 100% waterproof Pongee fabric, the cycling rain cape has you covered – and your bike too! Their Octavia Rain Cape has a pretty unique look to it because of its translucent All Weather Shell stretch fabric. The fabric is very lightweight, breathable and it doesn’t restrict your movement on the bike. It’s also great for shielding you from the wind. Hi, I'm Sarah, The Urban Wanderer. I love nothing more than exploring wherever I am and learning about new places. I write this outdoor, travel, and lifestyle blog to inspire you to look at your urban world a little differently.

The only downside of the People’s Poncho is the cost. It’s not the cheapest way to keep yourself dry while cycling, but in my opinion its benefits are worth the extra money.

Essentially, you need a size that fits you. If you go for a ‘one-size’ poncho, choose something with adjustable fitting features. If you have a particularly small or large frame, you might be better off choosing a brand with different size options. The Cleverlite is the cheapest option. There’s no zipper to get the hood tight to your chin, but it still has thumbs loops and is waterproof like the Zipster. I didn’t think no zipper would be a deal breaker, but it was. Without that zipper, the Cleverlite’s hood doesn’t fit as well under a helmet, and the hood would certainly blow right off without a helmet on. So we chose the mid-range option, the CleverZipster! Ponchos offer more ventilation simply by their loose design, and if it is cold, they can go over any layers you’re wearing without restricting your movements. If you’re riding in the rain I would recommend placing a light on your helmet or in another position on your bike so that motorists can see your light. Years ago I found myself at work needing to pedal home. The trouble is that a storm had rolled into town and the rain was pouring!

The first trip with the poncho went just like any other ride. The only difference is it took a little getting used to working the brakes and gear shifts with the poncho straps. Available in three colours, including ‘Indian red’ and the (very visible) ‘lemon’, there’s also no doubt that you’ll be seen in murky conditions. More than anything it felt normal riding with the poncho on. The waistband did its job to keep the poncho covering my body, and the hood kept on my head.Don’t let the rain stop you from riding your bike. With the right poncho, you can make it through the wettest of weather.

Not all capes are made to make you look like a goof. There’s a collection of capes that are hip and stylish. The SaphiRose boasts itself as a ‘3-in-1 multi-function’ poncho. Not only is it a waterproof cloak, but it can also be used as an awning cloth or a tent ground sheet mat. Ideal for those wet camping trips.

In regards to functionality, it features waterproof zippers; magnetic closures that snap shut at armholes, and sturdy velcro trim tabs. This cape comes in two fabric types: a strong lightweight ripstop fabric, and a more sturdy brushed micro-fibre fabric. Each options is totally breathable and offers a variety of colours.

The Cleverhood rain cape comes with a fitted hood that can be worn under a bike helmet. It also has elastic thumb loops to keep it secure while bike riding. They do a great job of keeping the cape over your hands and handlebars as you’re riding around. The Cons of this Cape I only buy things I really need and have the criteria that they must be multi-functional and long-lasting. I have so far found that The People’s Poncho fits the bill. Brooks England is primarily known for their saddle, but they’ve branched out to make this trendy rain cape. If style is your priority, then this cape is for you.The second test was to put it on and give it a good power shower with the garden hose. How would it handle a constant shower of water?
