About this deal

If you’re after laptop buying advice, I’m your man. I’ve been reviewing PCs and technology products for more than a decade. I cut my teeth in PC Labs, spending several years with PCMag.com before writing for other outlets, among them LaptopMag.com and Tom’s Guide. While computers are my main focus, I’ve also written at length about topics ranging from fitness gear and appliances to TV and home theater equipment. If I’ve used it, I have opinions about it, whether somebody’s paying me to write them up or not. A Unifying receiver looks like the image below, and it does not work with products that are not Unifying compatible. My only gripe with the product (which I think I accepted before purchasing anyway) is the battery life. The MX was able to go for days on end without requiring a recharge. The G700s? Not so much. Using the normal gaming setting with 1000 polls per second, I can see probably 5-6 hours of gaming before I need to plug the mouse in to recharge it. Using the mouse on a normal basis with the power saving feature and a much lower polling rate I can get a few days out of the mouse, but not much more. So while I knew the battery life wasn't going to be as good as the MX, its slightly below my original expectation of how long it would last. Personally, I would have loved to see 2 AA batteries in the mouse for extended battery life. Furthermore, if you attempt to use the mouse while it is plugged in, be prepared for your mouse to suddenly stop working, it seems the connection while recharging sometimes shuts off the mouse for a half-second to a second. I can not confirm if this is a problem with the mouse from the start (I can't remember!), or if this is a defect due to age/wear, but this is certainly the case for me. That's it for cons, though! Adjustable DPI settings. You can save up to five DPI levels per profile and switch between them using two buttons located just to the left of the LMB. If you don't like the default button placement (which I personally don't - I find it too easy to accidentally press the LMB) you can always assign the functions to different buttons.

The mouse can be used while plugged in to a USB cable and recharging. I used to have a wireless mouse that couldn't be used while it was recharging and that one thing annoyed me so much I ended up replacing it after only a few months. However, the USB recharging cable can sometimes be a hassle (see first bullet in CONS below). Inside the box, you’ll find the mouse itself and some bits of paper. You’ll also find a trio of useful accessories – the Bluetooth USB dongle, a USB extension cord for the dongle, and a shaped Micro USB cable which allows the mouse to plug into your PC.The tilting scroll wheel does not default to sidescrolling. Not that big of an issue considering you can program that easily so I am not going to lower the rating but still a bit disappointing. Full-speed USB performance whether wireless or wired: Executes commands up to eight times faster than a standard USB mouse Logitech’s G700S is a strong hybrid mouse that seems well designed and solidly constructed. While there are some downsides to the wireless operation, including weight and day-long battery life, many users will appreciate the flexibility you get in exchange. For those that want a dual-use device for gaming and general use, the G700S seems a wise option. Pros

The charging port of the mouse has become very loose, where it can not keep a USB-Micro-B plugged in reliably nor keep a reliable connection. Problems started occurring in roughly 2016 (2 years), and became bad enough to be generally unusable/unreliable in 2018 (4 years). This is probably the weakest link of this product, but it is possible this has been improved. Navigate to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\LGHUB, where [USERNAME] will be specific to your account. The battery life on the mouse is relatively short. Using the battery that came with the mouse, it only takes around four hours of use in "Normal Gaming Mode" power settings at 250 updates/second to go from fully charged to a red indicator LED, which according to the manual means very low power level. Using 2000 mAh rechargeable NiMH Duracell AA batteries yields similar results. That being said, I've never had the mouse just die on me while gaming, and I've noticed that it can operate while reporting that very low power red LED for a good while (at least an hour). I'm not sure if the mouse automatically switches to a power-saving mode in that situation or if Logitech was just very conservative when defining their very low power limits. In any case I usually just recharge my mouse overnight (it doesn't need that long to fully recharge - I just find it to be a convenient time to do it) and it's good to go for at least the next day. For the operation of a wireless GAMING mouse, the charging port is in my opinion superfluous, and may be detrimental if you attempt to use it. There is a case to using it to charge the battery overnight, but outside of that context, I would recommend NOT using it. It gets in the way when using the mouse with a charger plugged in, and if you wanted to use a wired mouse in the first place, I would've bought one from the get-go, as those are better designed with dedicated wires that are designed to not get in the way during operation. It's a wireless mouse, so it inherently contains some of the problems with a wireless mouse. Most critically, it may die in the middle of use, which I have discussed before. But hey, you're looking to get into buying a wireless mouse, so you knew that already, right? The front of the mouse contains a micro USB port, allowing a cable to be connected and the mouse to be charged. This is also how the G700S is used as a wired mouse.
