About this deal

David Q: I like it because when we read it, it's like we're in the book and I think this book is amazing. I dont normally add or review childrens books, but i had to with this one. My little boy is taking part in a summer reading challenge with the library and this book is one of the few we've chosen so far.

This ks2 reading resource has different levels of differentiation and starting points for your Year 3 / Year 4 class and includes the answers. Use a ‘place between’ in a story of your own. Where could your story’s ‘place between’ be? Where is it between? What is it like? What happens there? The story is about a boy who goes to a magic show with his family and his brothers don’t believe. There are other performers in the circus tent which initially invite the reader to continue reading and exploring the illustrations. Leon is then invited by the magician to be part of the show and as Leon is magically disappeared he arrives in the place where all the magic goes. We are using this text for our remote guided reading using literacy shed VIPERS. This resource has some lovely ideas to support the text and engage the childrens curiosity as we go through it. Thank you! Watch this video showing how the illustrator created the images for the book. Could you use similar techniques to create images for your own story (or for a popular children’s book)?

We've got a range of lovely activities perfect for use alongside this book. Why not challenge your class to add a hidden chapter to the story, or write an alternate ending? Your class could write up their ideas on these Wizard Writing Frames to create a magical classroom display of writing. Or for a fun starter task, why not try our Magic Word Search , featuring related words such as magic, potions and wand.If you are about to start this wonderful book in your literacy lessons, this bundle could save you so much time! Everything is saved in a format so that you can edit as much or as little as you like. Look at the expressions of the characters in the illustrations. How are they feeling? How do you know?

A lovely read for your KS1 class, this magical adventure is a wonderful opportunity for some great learning, including lots of fun maths and literacy activities around magic and superheroes. Leon and the Place Between Literacy ActivitiesPause the story at the point when Leon is about to enter the box. Should he go in? Make a list of ‘for’ and ‘against’ arguments.
