About this deal

Most often the start-up load of the appliance or power tool determines whether an inverter has the capability to power it. e) Reliably powers the following devices that normally won’t work with modified sine wave inverters: This 24V to 240V inverter boasts an exceptionally high yield of up to 93% when converting from AC to DC. What’s more, NDS inverters operate with some of the lowest self-consumption figures on the market. This means that the amount of power the device itself uses during operation is exceptionally low. This is achieved through the quality of the construction, such as the high conductivity connection bars installed in every NDS inverter. Excellent build quality Inverters may be rated according to their peak power or to their average power. The first is the maximum power that can be provided for an instant. Any longer would result in damage or automatic shutdown. The second is the power that can be provided on a constant basis, without time limits. Peak power is normally around twice average power so it does pay to read the label carefully. Peak power is useful to know when sizing an inverter for loads with a high starting current (see below).

If you want to run a hairdryer, you will need an inverter of at least 1,500W, but taking that amount of power from a standard leisure battery will flatten it in just a few minutes.A power inverter changes direct current (DC) power from a battery, usually 12V or 24V, into conventional mains alternating current (AC) power at 230V. This means that you can use one to operate all kinds of devices ... electric lights, kitchen appliances, power tools, TVs, radios, computers, to name just a few. Just connect the inverter to a battery, and plug your AC devices into the inverter and you've got portable power whenever and wherever you need it. The inverter draws its power from a 12V or 24V battery (preferably deep-cycle), or several batteries wired in parallel. The battery will need to be recharged as the power is drawn out of it by the inverter. The battery can be recharged by running the car or lorry motor, or a generator, solar panels, or wind turbine. Or you can use a battery charger plugged into an AC outlet to recharge the battery. Sunshine Inverters are supplied with heavy duty leads fitted with terminal rings for easy connectivity to your battery.

The majority of portable appliances do not have this problem. Most portable appliances use separate transformers or chargers that plug into AC receptacles to supply a low-voltage DC or AC output to the appliance. If the appliance label states that the charger or adaptor produces a low-voltage DC or AC output (30V or less), there should be no problem powering that charger or adaptor. Of course, you still need to know whether the output of the inverter is a pure sine wave or not. If a pure sine wave is needed you could consider a generator without an inverter built-in. This will probably be cheaper although the frequency might not be as stable. Inverters work by taking DC power and switching it on and off through a transformer. This produces an alternating current (AC) waveform on the output side of the transformer. The ratio of the windings is such that the output is at 230V. The earliest inverters used a mechanical vibrator to do the switching, though modern types use electronics. This is the rough calculation for the size of a vehicle alternator you would need to keep up with a specific load, as an inverters efficiency is only rated around 90%, the current requirement will need to be 10% higher; for example, to keep up with a continuous draw of 1000W, you would need: Small, battery-operated appliances such as flashlights, cordless razors and toothbrushes that can be plugged directly into an AC receptacle to recharge.
