About this deal

This evening I played a few games of 'Blood, Sweat & Cheers' to try out some ideas I had for running a barbarian gladiator. Regular readers of this blog will know that this has been occupying some of my attention for a couple of years now (although admittedly not constantly, because that would be weirdly obsessive).

Hordes of the Things (wargame) - Wikipedia

One Hour Wargames - English Civil War - Another heavily modified OHW variant. (Version 2.0, 12th January 2022) The table needs to be wider. The army must be split into “commands” equivalent to 24 points worth each. The high value elements can be concentrated into one command. Each command rolls a separate Command die. Each command can become demoralised, without being destroyed, and fights on at a disadvantage. Otherwise the normal victory conditions apply. See The Elephant- American Civil war battles on a chessboard or square grid. (Version 1.1 7th January 2015) One Hour Wargames - Great Northern War - A heavily modified version of the Horse & Musket/Pike & Shot rules in Neil Thomas's 'One Hour Wargames' specifically for use with the Great Northern War (Version 1.0, 21st August 2015).Knights are heavily armoured or magically protected fighters on heavy horses, chariots or equivalent fantasy beasts such as lizards. They love to charge into melee. HOTT is essentially the fantasy variant of DBA. Sample army lists and a campaign system are also in the rule book. Geoff fielded a Greek force with spears, some chariot riders, a few warband, Achilles and his Myrmidons as a hero general, plus a couple of Titan behemoths and Ares as a god. Oooooh ! yes yes yes ! Hordes is without a doubt the finest miniatures rules for large scale fantasy, ever -and I say that with the unbiased detachment of someone who helped write the second edition....and runs a semi-yearly tournament on the west coast....and who has over 50 HOTT armies seperate from the DBA armies.....so, yeah.

The Stronghold Rebuilt - Blogger

Riders, when beaten, will recoil from combat with any enemy troop type, but if they are in Bad Going they will be destroyed. Meanwhile, Veganin has set off on his own quest to slay the leaders of the evil hordes, beginning with the High Bishop of Zylbor, whose priests baptise people by holding their heads under water until they stop struggling. What Veganin doesn't realise, until it is seemingly too late, is that the Bishop's gaze will turn anything it falls upon to ashes. Gods are members of the traditional pagan pantheons such as Zeus, Thor, or fantasy equivalents. Monotheistic gods never appear on the battlefield, having Clerics instead. Mounted troops can be Heroes, Paladins, Knights, Riders, Behemoths, or Beasts. These move faster in good going than Foot.

One turn represents 15 minutes. Can be used with 25mm, 15mm, or 6mm figures. Basing The width of the base depends upon the size of Have a browse for Dwarves, Elves, Undead, Goblins, Orcs, Humans, Dracci (Dragonmen), Savage Lizardmen, Lizardmen, Elementals, Dogmen and a wide variety of Monsters, Creatures and Behemoths as well as 15mm fantasy scenics. Foot can be Blades, Spears, Shooters, Warbands, Artillery, Hordes, Lurkers, Sneakers, Magicians or Clerics. Struggle Against Everything And Everybody - Simple rules for the Mexican Revolution using a square grid. Current Version - 0.1 (9th May 2012) Turns are alternate. In their turn a player dices for Player Initiative Points (PIPs), spell casting and shooting is resolved and finally close combat is resolved. A player's PIPs are used to move elements, cast spells and perform certain other actions. Shooting, spell casting and close combat is resolved using the same mechanisms; shooting and spell casting are resolved between any elements in range, close combat between adjacent elements. Combat results generally cause elements to recoil, flee or be destroyed outright. An army loses if its general is lost, half its points are lost or, if the defender, its stronghold is lost. A game generally lasts less than an hour.

Snuff, Pipes and Wargames / DBA and HOTT - PBworks

There is a very active yahoo group for Hordes of the Things at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/HOTT/ An army is made up of a number of 'elements' of equal frontage and varying numbers of figures. The number of figures on each element is unimportant and need only be what looks right for any given army; all game mechanisms use the element as a basic unit. The number of elements in an army is based on a points system. Each element costs 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 Army Points (AP) depending on its type. A basic army is made up of 24AP worth of troops, but no more than half the points can be spent on elements costing 3 or more AP. A basic army is therefore normally made up of between 9 and 12 elements, although 13-24 element armies are possible. Elements are of basic types—examples are Knights (mounted troops relying on a fierce charge), Blades (skilled fencing infantry), Heroes (superhuman individuals), Lurkers (things that hide and ambush) and Magicians (practitioners of magic). One element is the army's general. The design objective is to make it possible to fight the kinds of battles seen in fantasy fiction and films like Lord of the Rings, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and similar wars. These are essentially based on historical mediaeval combat with added elements of mighty heroes, monsters and magic.Clobberin' Time - Fast and furious superhero skirmish rules. Stat up your favourite characters in next to no time, and pit them against each other, or evil villains. (Draft 0.3 20th June 2016)
