In the effective cold open, set one year earlier, we see the events that led to Corey being accused of killing the boy he was babysitting. It was an accident, but the legacy of Michael Myers has infected Haddonfield which has "turned in on itself". There's always got to be somebody to blame, and Corey is the unfortunate soul. While most fans of the Halloween franchise won’t agree with me on this, Halloween Ends is the best Halloween film in a very long time, perhaps even over the 2018 reboot/sequel, which I also enjoyed. For the majority of its running time, it’s not a film about Michael Myers returning to stab a bunch of folks and have it out with Laurie Strode in the end. We’ve seen that several times over, and what’s refreshing about Ends is that it examines the impact of Michael Myers, sidelining him and allowing a new character to not only inhabit his visage, but analyze what would drive somebody to commit such evil. None of it’s cut and dried, nor is it definitive in any way, but watching the tragic trajectory of a character in a world that hates him is well accomplished in this film. Michael Myers popping up in the final minutes to have yet another tussle with Laurie Strode is a tired afterthought, one that the entire marketing campaign was based upon. Whether that was intentionally misleading is another discussion altogether, but I found myself drawn in by the story more than I originally thought I would be. Taking such a drastic left turn this late in the franchise, especially when it’s meant to end this new trilogy of films, is subversively intriguing. It’s announced that Halloween Ends will take place 4 years after its predecessor, Halloween Kills. The COVID-19 pandemic will also play a part in the story. Say what you will about Halloween Ends, but it’s refreshing that after the filmmakers and the studio behind it played things safe for two films they decided to take the leap and do something drastically different that’s not just entertaining, but supersedes the films that came before it. Most will hate it because it’s not a true closing to a trilogy, but I frankly don’t care. I wasn’t entirely interested in seeing the film after the previous one, but it exceeded my expectations. Regardless, the UHD presentation is top notch, but now that this series is over, let’s get a boxed set together with some substantial bonus materials for a change. Enough with the fluff.

Given that Shane's a big horror fan, you might be surprised to learn that he's a pop guy. However like I say... the fans of the Franchise will Buy the Steelbook to add to their collection.... It’s difficult to talk about the specifics of Halloween Ends without getting into major spoilers (indeed, the opening paragraph of this review is a spoiler in its own way), so for those who haven’t seen the film and want to remain as ignorant as possible, you might want to skip this review until you’ve seen the film. If you want to waste your time and money then go and see this movie in the cinema...if you don't then just wait and add the steelbook to your collection if your a collector of steenboks and a fan of the Franchise. The set includes Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends, with each film creatively distinct while honoring the legacy of John Carpenter's original. The trilogy features some of Carpenter's best music.Was going to give 4 stars as I actually liked the film , a treat to hear one of my favourite bands the dead kennedys on the film. Were Halloween Ends the middle part of this particular trilogy or a standalone instalment, you'd write it off as an interesting, if unsuccessful, attempt at something new. But the movie's position as the culmination of the franchise exacerbates its failures as it's not only not giving you what you expected, it hasn't replaced it with something compelling either. In the world of Halloween, the timeline can be moulded to fit whatever idea might come next. However, that doesn't mean Halloween Ends can't be approached as a finale, because that's definitely what the marketing wants you to think. The 4K UHD release of Halloween Ends released on December 27 and is loaded with a variety of special features. While it doesn’t include an extended cut of the film like the release of Halloween Kills did, it does include a selection of deleted and extended scenes that give a better idea of what the filmmakers were going for when they made the film. Seeing the crew explain their thought process about how Halloween Ends was made does help somewhat with understanding why the film turned out the way it does, though personally the ending of the film still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
