Suntory Hakushu 18 Years Old Single Malt Whisky 70 cl Suntory Hakushu 18 Years Old Single Malt Whisky 70 cl

Founded in 1973 by Keizo Saji, Suntory founder's son, Hakushu Distillery is located at the foot of Mount Kaikomagatake the heart of a lush preserved forest. Palate: Oaky with notes of custard, syrup, stem ginger, bramble leaves, watermelon, hints of cut hay and pine resin. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the House of Suntory has unveiled several limited-edition whiskies that highlight the unique Japanese craftsmanship at Suntory’s most prestigious whisky distilleries. Rare, refined and thought-provoking, these are some truly special drops. Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara On the nose, ripe green apple, sage and licorice abound. It’s bright and ever-so-slightly spicy. It’s undoubtedly smoky, but in a comparatively subtle way: it’s not a massive smoke bomb, nor does it hide the peat away. It actually reminds me a bit of tarte flambée, thanks to its funky, meaty and sweet notes. This limited edition single malt from Suntory's Hakushi distillery was released in 2021 as part of its Tsukuriwake Selection. Only 300 bottles were produced of this peated Japanese whisky. The Service has been prepared by us solely for information purposes to Members and the Service is based on information we consider reliable and we obtain the contents of the Service from a number of different third party sources (including Contributions), but we do not endorse, support, represent, warrant or guarantee the completeness, truthfulness, accuracy, or reliability of the Services and any information therein.

Hakushu 18-year-old - Ratings and reviews - Whiskybase

Suntory was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii who started making whisky at the Yamazaki distillery, located on the periphery of Kyoto in Japan. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect. The resulting liquid offers notes of dark cherry and ripe peach on the nose, with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate is ‘subtly spiced’ with Japanese incense and a long and lingering finish, accentuated with clove, sandalwood, and hints of dried coconut. Not overly complex, but he brings what he brings on a high level. The nose I think is wonderful, reminds me of the football field of my youth. I may have been influenced by my decision, but not only for me was the best of the tasted Japanese (besides Hakushu 18 also Hibiki 17 and Yamazaki 18) Second-generation master blender Keizo Saji founded the Hakushu distillery in 1973, located in Hokuto in the Yamanashi prefecture. The most popular Japanese single malt in the world was also the first. Yamazaki 12 is primarily made up of whisky aged in American oak and ex-bourbon casks, with trace amounts of whisky coming from Olorosso or Mizunara casks. For Westerners, this lends it a slightly more familiar flavor — at least initially. What follows are the rich, standard markers for Japanese whisky: delicate fruit, light spice and a long, sherry-driven finish.

Each Hibiki expression is a blend of dozens of whiskies produced at all three of Suntory’s whiskey-making facilities and, as with each Suntory whisky brand, may contain spirit aged in new American oak barrels, Spanish Olorosso sherry casks, ex-bourbon barrels, ex-wine casks and the legendary (not to mention extraordinarily expensive) Japanese Mizunara oak barrel. Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt is comprised of meticulously selected malt whiskies all aged for a minimum of 18 years. As the name implies, it places a unique emphasis on peated whisky, using peat imported from Scotland to malt Japanese barley – a distilling challenge made possible by the Hakushu distillery’s pure and unique water, which softens the whisky’s signature smoky taste. It too is aged in mizunara casks. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. The history of the Japanese whisky is not even a century old, but in this short time, the Japanese blended and single malts have taken over the world by storm and can easily go against their whisk(e)y counterparts from across the globe.

Also joining the celebrations is Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt, an eclectic and beautifully complex whisky that epitomises the meeting of East and West that defines Japanese whisky.Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Whisky aged in Mizunara casks is thought to need more time to reach its potential than traditional aging types; thus, the older the Hibiki expression, the more Mizunara characteristic. In this case, that means a spirit with a weighty body, heavy coconut and sandalwood aroma and a balanced sweet- and spice-driven taste profile. Yamazaki. Hakushu. Hibiki. When a Westerner thinks of Japanese whisky, they think of names under the House of Suntory. Which makes sense, of course — Shinjiro Torii’s company, founded in 1923, is Japan’s first and most popular whisky maker. But it wasn’t always that way.
