About this deal

This starts off cute enough with orphan foxes (well that’s kinda sad), and we learn that the young sibling foxes have a feud with the neighborhood cats. Ok, I can hang with that…what I can’t hang with is the name calling hurling insults, threats of physical violence and then the ACTUAL violence. In the process of this fued, the cat “looses” (by way of the fox) her tail and it gets nailed to the wall of the foxes den. Then the appendage is used to tease the cat and ultimately distract the cat while a bird comes down and decapitates said cat. WHAT?! WHY?! The inside of Nadia Shireen's brain must be a fun place to be because there are SO MANY funny jokes and hilarious moments in Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly! GO read it now!' Maisie Chan, author of Branford Boase winning Danny Chung Does Not Do Maths SciFi and Fantasy...: Accidental Time Machine discussion -- Other Favorite Time Travel Books, TV Shows and Movies También es cierto que la historia no se anda con tonterías y si tienen que acabar con alguien que quiere hacerles daño va a por todas.

Hush," he whispered. "We did all we could. More than either of us ever dreamed when we were first starting out." Nancy is the tough one, and fiercely protective of her little brother Ted, who is a rather gentle soul. Yet, when Ted accidentally bites scary cat Princess Buttons’ tail off, the two foxes need somewhere to lie low. What better place than Grimwood, a faraway forest whose furry denizens play endless games of Treebonk, and tough talking bunnies frisk under shady trees?

An exciting first volume in an attractive series of graphic novels for junior readers, this tale successfully combines science fiction, humour, family difficulties and environmental concerns in an accessible and entertaining format. Fully illustrated throughout and full of heart, laughs and surprises, this is the must-read third title in the bestselling and fantastically funny Grimwood series. It doesn't really matter what the plot is, though the foxes are trying to keep out of the cat's way and must use any new friends they have to help them. The point is that it's a funny trip into an animal world of quirky silliness, with the narrator taking great pleasure in all the voices. Perfect for readers age 7 to 107, fans of Dog Man, Roald Dahl, Mr Gum, Loki and David Walliams, and anyone who loves to laugh. Grimwood is where I want to be. A carnival of crazed confused comical critters that is more real than real life. Lots of things make me laugh but Grimwood makes me laugh out loudest. With regular interjections from Eric Dynamite (woodlouse) popping up and adding comments along the way, it's a story centred around two young foxes, brother and sister Ted and Nancy, parentless. But also gives us chapters from the perspectives of various animals around Grimwood, then brings the plots together. This was a little bit 'different'. We've loved Shireen's picture books (all of them) and saw her name on this and wanted to try a book for the older ages. When two young foxes who have no parents around are just going about their daily lives, they could never guess at just how much trouble could come from biting down on what appeared to be a hot dog. Ultimately this book sees the two foxes move from their inner city life and head to the forests of Grimwood with no idea on what exactly to expect as they are simply given a map and told to head there following the hot dog incident. In Grimwood there are numerous animal friends and foes to be met and it is a great adventure for the foxes themselves but also for the reader too. Nadia was always destined for a career in illustration—as a child, she would doodle on her exercise books, while as a student she would doodle on her law degree notes. Then, when working as a journalist in London for pop music bible Smash Hits, she would doodle all the time on anything. The good people at Smash Hits didn’t fire her for doodling furry animals - instead they let her leave early to go to evening classes in illustration. Perfect for readers age 7+, and fans of Dog Man, Roald Dahl, David Walliams, Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good, Bunny vs Monkey and anyone who likes to laugh.

Each lesson has clear objectives and outcomes, with curriculum links to literacy, art, design & technology, science, drama, geography, PSHE and group reading. Grimwood is a forest far, far, faaaaar away. It’s full of trees and sky and mud and stones. It smells weird and there’s loads of litter and old shopping trolleys. But it’s also FUN and GREAT and it’s where scruffy fox cub siblings from the Big City, Ted and Nancy, have made their home with their crazy new gang of woodland friends. All life includes loss. It's taken me many, many years to learn to deal with that, and I don't expect I'll ever be fully resigned to it. But that doesn't mean we have to turn away from the world, or stop striving for the best that we can do and be. We owe that much to ourselves, at least, and we deserve whatever measure of good may come of it.” Nadia Shireen enjoyed making homemade magazines and comics as a child. She studied law at university and then worked in magazine journalism; it was during this time that she started to draw again. After a lifetime of doodling in the sidelines, Nadia decided to pay some attention to drawing and in 2007 was accepted onto an MA course in children’s book illustration at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. Her debut book, Good Little Wolf, received a mention in the Bologna Ragazzi Opera Prima Award and won the UKLA Book Award. Nadia has been shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. She lives in London.
