There is no bloatware here, just a pure and simple Windows 11 installation. It’s something we’ve always loved about the Microsoft Surface lineup, and especially at this price point it’s not something you should take for granted. Two of the most important presets here are labeled "Video" and "FreeFrame Video," the latter of which removes all stabilization and in-camera cropping. This preset is best used by those who plan on using the Insta360 app for video editing. Despite its compact size, the Insta360 Go3 offers decent image quality for a camera this size. It can record videos up to 1440p at 50fps (up to 100Mbps bit rate) or 2.7K at 30fps (up to 50Mbps bitrate). The f/2.2 aperture ensures you capture bright and detailed imagery. However, its low-light performance does leave something to be desired. Footage taken in the dark is noisier than other more expensive and bulkier counterparts such as the GoPro, but the camera still manages to deliver decent results prior to sunset lighting condition. Because now that our PCs are one of the main ways we interact with the world, they just can’t be single-purpose devices anymore, and that goes for pretty much everyone. The pandemic has made multitasking so important, and it really is a shame that this device puts so much emphasis on the design instead of the internals. We would much rather have seen a less flashy aesthetic if it meant that it didn’t slow down when doing simple everyday tasks that everyone is going to have to do. Speaking of which, the Go 3 features a 11.24mm f/2.2 camera (35mm equivalent) and is capable of shooting up to 2.7K video (at 24/25/30 frames per second) and photos in four resolutions including 2,560 x 1,440 (16:9) and 2,936 x 1,088 (2.7:1) as a DNG RAW. The camera can also shoot at 1440p and 1080p at 24/25/30/50 frames per second. Timelapses can be recorded to 1440p, but slow motion 120 frames per second video is restricted to 1080p.

Using the Insta360 Go 3 is a straightforward experience. The camera features a USB-C port on the side for charging, as well as a small latch that secures it within the pod. Without the Pod, the Go 3 is as basic as it gets. The camera module has a single button that, by default, starts a recording. You can swap its default capture mode via the camera menu (accessible via the Action Pod's screen) or require a double press to minimize accidental recordings. Battery life isn’t the Go 3’s most impressive attribute. The camera itself offers only around 45 minutes of 1080p recording time when flying solo; things get a lot better when embedded in the Action Pod, with 170 minutes available. The Insta360 Go 3 offers FlowState electronic image stabilisation and horizon levelling, and it’s extremely effective– able to transform shaky handheld sequences into smooth scenes that almost look like they could have been shot using a gimbal. There are three levels available, but you can also just shoot in the camera’s FreeFrame video setting and subsequently add either horizon-levelled or FPV-style image stabilisation in post-processing.
