About this deal

Pound the bottom on a flat surface a few times so that the bottom sits firmly flat on the wood surface. I've bought several varieties from these guys ...and they are awesome for the price. No affiliation whatsoever - just passing on the info. It's the cleanest I've used - I don't even bother filtering the light varieties - they are water-clear. I use a 1/2# cut of their "super blond" as a seal coat / sanding coat on everything I do. French Oak is grown and processed according to a very strict set of rules and guidelines, regulated by the Fédération Nationale du Bois (FNB) or the National Wood Federation. The FNB exist specifically to ensure the consistent high quality of timber produced in France and exported around the world for all sorts of purposes, from wine barrels to floor boards to furniture and much more. If you have a table made of real French Oak you can reasonably expect: Don’t imagine for a minute that this lovely flooring material comes in a limited range of finishes. Its quality of grain makes it a great base for sanding to bring out its unique characteristics. Then, various stains and varnishes can be applied to make highly individual wood floor planks.

A new batch of shellac can be used for 3 months. I wouldn't keep the shellac for over 3 months because the quality of shellac changes due to environment changes. Everyone Should Know About Finishing Oak What Everyone Should Know About Finishing Oak

I have an old ebony grand piano which is about 100 years old. It is very shabby and needs a repolish. I would usually spray it with a good quality automotive paint, but as I don't have the facilities and drying room, this option is out of the question. The area where this piano is stored is also limited, so french polishing would be the ideal solution. Some products may be delivered straight to your door from one of our suppliers and these products will be labelled within the product description. It comes down to a few simple measures that can protect the integrity and beauty of your wood flooring. This includes using a soft brush to regularly remove any dirt and grit that drags in on feet. Clean the surface of your French oak hardwood flooring with a soft mop too – preferably a microfiber one. Original French oak contains saw marks and rough spots from early sawmills, adding to its unique appearance. French oak planks have a worn look from being walked on for decades. European oak refers to oak cut or reclaimed in countries other than France, but French oak is considered the best choice due to its unique finish and higher tannin levels Not all French oak is the same I did this to mine too! French polish it! honestly its not hard and very satisfying to see the finished result. there are lots of instructions on the web. Just involves a wad and some cloth, oil and patience. I did mine about 6yrs ago, and have 2 young kids who do not care if their hands are clean or not (or wet) and it still looks as good as new! Plus you can touch it up when you require to ( though like I said I have not needed to in 6 years!) The finish is lovely to feel and i think wax may clump after time/heat and rubbing though I may be wrong on this! Like the other poster said varnish flakes, chips and 'yellows'.Cheese cloth is totally fine for filtering. As long as you fold it multiple times and the fibers are small enough, it should work just as well as old t-shirts. A couple of glass containers - one for mixture, and another for filtering.(I use mason jars in this case). Gently move the finishing pad across the surface with small circular motions or figure 8 motions. Remember that once you start polishing, never stop at mid point. If the shellac is running out, move your finishing pad toward the edge of your wood in circular motion as well. French oak is very durable and can take on many different looks due to its finish. With its gorgeous, natural appearance, French oak flooring can perfectly complement any room or space. This guide will help you choose, install, and maintain your floor so you can enjoy your aged French oak wood flooring for years to come.

At this point, it’s worth discussing a few factors that affect the features of oak flooring, regardless of the country the tree has grown in. Those are soil type, climate, growth rate and the age of the tree. Then, there’s also a question of how carefully the trees are selected for their wood. To put it briefly, oak is the same all over the world. So, why French oak is so sought after? Oak is one of the best choices for hardwood flooring due to its durability. French oak is favored due to its high tannin level, allowing it to absorb more color. This process results in a more natural, longer-lasting finish and a higher quality floor. Is French Oak Flooring Unique? Should I apply finishing oil or woodstain? Not sure what the difference is. I want it to feel smooth to the touch. We bought some Ronseal finishing oil in antique oak in the hopes that if we apply one coat on left and two on the bannister it might look ok...! To be authentic, your French oak hardwood flooring planks should reach exacting standards in their composition and cutting. If you’re buying newly produced wood flooring, the original supplier should be a sustainable timber merchant, who understands the growth patterns and timing required to produce high-grade French oak. After one session is done, examine your piece under a light and see if there's any scratches or uneven shellac build ups. To fix the unevenness, take a 800 grit wet-and-dry sand paper, sand the surface with soap water. You should be able to see that all the high spots are sanded and eventually the surface is flat.It will have a predictable level of character, natural features and colour variation according to the detailed French Oak grading system. Each of our French Oak tops is made from a single tree, so the grain pattern and colour tones flow beautifully across the entire table top. This gives each table the trademark Abacus aesthetic that’s almost impossible to replicate. Lemon Shellac Flakes produce a pale gold colour and can be used for furniture restoration and light to medium coloured woods.
